Siddharth Chowdhury is a Creative Specialist based in Bangalore. He works for a US-based software company.
Siddharth was born in Kolkata into a family of artists. He studied at a government school. After completing school, he started working in Multimedia, and then he enrolled in a BA course.
Talking about his childhood, Siddharth says that he was born in a very humble family. He grew up playing Cricket, Carrom, etc. with his friends. He was not that good at studies and did not have big ambitions in life at that time.
Talking about struggles in his life, Siddharth says that his family’s financial condition was not that good, and owing to that he had to work after completing school to support himself. Initially, he worked for about six months at a bank but could not earn much. Then he worked for an insurance company for a few months but it did not interest him much. Then upon his brother and sister’s suggestion who were working in Bangalore at that time, he too moved there to do a course in Graphic Designing. He says he had done his schooling in Bengali medium but in Bangalore, everyone spoke English which was quite challenging for him to adapt to.
Soon after completing his Graphics Designing course, Siddharth was able to get a good job. But, when his sister moved out of Bangalore, he had to manage it all by himself. He started working as a freelance Graphic Designer. Then he worked with a well-known media company for about six years and in that job he learned a lot. Thereafter, he joined a US-based software company and has been working with it ever since. In 2016, he got an opportunity to fly to the US and work on a project for the same company. Based on his performance in the project, he got many more opportunities thereafter. He worked with renowned celebrities and big corporations.
Talking about Covid, Siddharth says that during the pandemic, he was stuck at his home. And in his spare time, he started doing photography and exploring the greenery in his backyard. And the photography that he did in his spare time later resulted in him becoming a wildlife photographer. He also started getting good engagement from people on his Instagram page.
To aspiring graphic designers, Siddharth advises that always be open to feedback, keep learning new things and keep pace with changing times. Besides, he advises them to do whatever they do in a unique and original way.
Siddharth thinks that both Education and Experience are important. However, he says that continually educating yourself is more important and it keeps you relevant. Besides, he says what you study and how things are done on the ground, there’s a huge disconnect between the two. Hence you should never neglect the importance of experiential learning.
To youngsters, Siddharth advises never to copy anyone. He says though you can follow and get inspired by others, you should never lose your authenticity and originality.
