Leaving her twenty-six years of corporate experience behind, Shukla dedicated her life to social service. She urges everyone to contribute to society by taking care of just one child, one tree and one stray dog.

Shukla Bose is the Founder and CEO of Parikrma Humanity Foundation based in Bangalore. She founded this NGO eighteen years ago to fill in the gap between privileged schools and schools for deprived children. Today she has four schools, one college and a teachers training center running under the aegis of her NGO.

Shukla says that prior to this, she had twenty-six years of corporate experience in which she was also the CEO of an MNC for eleven years. However, her passion to bring change in the society made her quit her job and step into the field of social service and welfare.

Shukla belongs to a modest middle-class family. Due to financial challenges at home, she also struggled in life and as a result of those struggles, she got the hang of the problems prevailing in  society at an early age. That’s when she started volunteering for the Missionaries of Charity run by Mother Teresa. She worked with them for seven years and she got an exposure of the marginalized society.

Describing her qualifications, Shukla says that she studied in a convent school and had been a bright student throughout. She did her masters in Comparative Literature after graduation. She also did MBA and a course in Social Entrepreneurship from George Washington University.

When asked about her role models, Shukla says, Mother Teresa is her biggest inspiration for her excellence, humility, integrity, honesty and giving nature. She also draws inspiration from her mother for her drive to achieve things and being ambitious. She also considers the Dalai Lama as her source of inspiration. She gets inspired by her students too by seeing them happy even in difficult times.

Talking about her achievements, Shukla says that she made her mark in the field of social service very soon. While working as a business leader, she was also awarded the title of ‘Woman of the Year.’ Plus, she was also felicitated by the ‘Bharat Gaurav Award’ and ‘Best Entrepreneur Award’ in her corporate life. She did not lag behind in the social sector as well and was awarded the ‘Most Eminent Educationist of the Year.’ She bagged the ‘Round Table Pride of Karnataka Award’ as well. The proudest moment of all time for her was when her school was declared as the Number-1 school of the country with the highest social impact.

About her COVID experience, Shukla says that due to the pandemic, her three-sixty degree model flopped because of the closure of schools. And the slum children whom she was educating did not have any mobile phones etc. But, in order to make education accessible to them, she distributed fifteen hundred Android phones to those children. Along with this, laptops were given to the teachers to provide online classes from their homes. Because of the poverty in their homes and loss of their parents’ jobs, she distributed food and other provisional items to those children every week. Apart from this, instead of relying on the government, she also ran a huge vaccination drive on her own.

In her spare time, Shukla enjoys trekking and reading books. She has a great love for animals and has five dogs at home. She loves spending time with them.

Shukla advises everyone to have clarity of what you want to do in life and says that it can lead you towards conviction. She also tells us to go ahead with commitment to develop sincerity for work. Also, having good communication skills is the key to progress further. She says, to move forward in your journey, you must be courageous as well as compassionate.
