Shubhi says that her maternal family is into teaching classical music. Her maternal grandfather first taught her classical music. He used to write ghazals. He was a great source of inspiration for her.

Initially, Shubhi was taking her music lessons at her home itself. But when her parents realized her interest in music, they sent her to a music teacher in Ujjain to learn music. She also learned Kathak from the same teacher. She started learning music from her second standard itself. Shubhi would actively participate in music competitions when she was in school. She says that she won almost every competition. She performed at various state and national-level competitions and won many of them.

Besides shastriya music, Shubhi also started learning ghazals upon her guruji’s suggestion. She started listening to various ghazal singers from across genres. She also listened to Bollywood ghazals, and it really got her interested in them. Shubhi considers Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Jagjit Singh, etc. as her biggest inspirations.

Shubhi says that she would balance her studies and music during her school days. Practising music made it easy for her to understand her subjects, and it improved her grades too. Even during her 11th grade, despite having a Science-Bio stream, she would practice daily and receive her music lessons.

Shubhi got selected for Indian Idol season 9. She also performed at Sare Ga Ma Pa in Mumbai. Shubhi says that initially she would get reprimanded by her music teacher because she would forget her lyrics. She would practice a lot to hone her singing skills. She would devote most of her time to learning music. She would restrict herself from watching much TV and going out with friends. She was determined and always had her aim before her. Her guruji advised her not to imitate any singer and to sing with her own authentic voice. Besides, her guruji also advised her not to consider any song or music easy, as he believed every music composition has its own intricacies and sophistication associated with it.

Shubhi shares that music was never her hobby; it was her passion. She says that your hobbies change with time, but your passion remains with you forever. Furthermore, she says that to make a mark in the field of your interest, you have to be fully devoted to it and learn to manage your time well.

Shubhi acknowledges the role that her family played in her upbringing. Her brother and sister would always support her, be it in her studies or music. Her mother taught her Hindi, and her father would also help her with her science lessons.

Even if Shubhi were given a chance to choose a different career by going back in time, she would still choose music as her career. She loves music so much that she would also want to pursue it in her next birth.

Shubhi believes that education is more important than experience. She says that education is a must for everyone. Her education instilled discipline in her and taught her time management.

During her free time, she likes to spend time with her parents and go shopping with her mother. Besides, she also sometimes dances to music and plays with her pets.

Shubhi thinks that the ongoing pandemic taught us how to fight alone. Besides, it also taught us the importance of our loved ones and maintaining good health. During this time, she practiced music and read books that she would not have done otherwise.
