Shubhi Singh is currently working for the welfare of mentally challenged children with the Community Welfare Centre and an NGO called the ‘Ganga Vision Sanstha’. Along with this, she is also taking care of an old-age home in Etawah.
Shubhi Singh was born and brought up in the Baran district of Rajasthan. She did her schooling and graduation both from Baran itself. She was also the Student Union President of her college in 1997, that was the time when she learned to work with and for people.
After completing her graduation, Shubhi formed a group with her college friends to help the needy people of her locality. After some time, she got the opportunity to work with the WHO on a project called DPIP for three years. There she worked with the people of ‘Sahariya’ Tribe in Shahabad tehsil. Thereafter she got associated with various NGOs before finally getting to work in the Ganga Vision Sanstha in 2011.
Shubhi says that her work in the NGO includes educating the mentally challenged children; they have also opened a school specifically for them now. They also give out newspaper ads for the children who are lost and help them meet their families. She says that some children, when they come to them, are very hyper and insecure so her first job is to make them feel secure and proceed to do their counseling followed by efforts to get them into the mainstream. Currently, she is taking care of 50 children with her NGO.
Shubhi says that she got the inspiration to work for society from her father. She believes that to work in the social service sector you need to have empathy for people, a quality that she picked up from her father.
Shubhi believes that social work is not something which requires hardcore effort and time. She says that small efforts with compassion are also a form of social work. She advises the youth to use their dynamism and capability to help the people who are in need.
Talking about leadership, Shubhi says that her liveliness and accommodating nature always helps her to lead people efficiently. She considers herself to be a family member of the people she is working with rather than take the role of a leader.’
Shubhi says that the COVID period was very difficult for her and the team, as the mentally challenged children have less immunity power compared to normal kids. She says it was a challenge for her and her team to keep the children protected from the infection as they were not able to understand the gravity of the situation.
In her free time, Shubhi likes to listen to music, as she considers music to be her remedy in sorrow and partner in joy. She also likes to visit her mother, who also lives in Kota itself, and spend time with her.
Shubhi’s only goal is to help more and more children and keep working for society with full zeal.
