As a Forensics student, Shruti identified the issues students face in accessing relevant content related to the domain and decided to make it available to them through her new venture.

Shruti Verma runs a YouTube channel by the name Savvy Forensics.

She started this platform in 2019 where she uploads educational videos related to Forensics Science to help students understand the subject better. Shruti says that vacancies in Forensics are quite less and often go unnoticed, hence she aims to bring these vacancies to the notice of the students. She provides such information to students with the help of her YouTube channel and Telegram account where students get access to the educational content along with career guidance in the field.

Shruti did her Bachelors in Biology and Masters in Forensics Science. She also prepared for MBBS and NEET but couldn’t secure a seat. She then did a certificate course on “Fingerprints and Questioned documents” in which she won the first prize.

Talking about the pandemic, Shruti shares that the classes of students came to a standstill and they faced issues of content availability. But owing to her Forensics content, students were able to continue with their studies. She also made content available on Telegram to make it convenient for students.

For aspiring Forensics students, Shruti suggests that one should have an interest in the subject and be patient and dedicated to pursue it. She adds that since vacancies in Forensics are limited, one should pursue their bachelors in pure Science so as not to limit their options, and then pursue their masters in Forensics. After completing masters, Shruti suggests to clear JRF and enrol in a PhD program to gain lab and research experience. For those who don’t wish to go for PhD, Shruti suggests preparing for the NIAF exam and getting a job on a contractual basis. She adds that one can also go for vacancies that come through SSC and get into the Fingerprint Bureau department. Shruti says that to get into Central Forensics Science, one has to gain relevant experience.

Shruti gives credit to her brother who encouraged her to start Savvy Forensics and considers him as her role model. She also draws inspiration from her teacher Dr Gaurav Mishra who helped her in the best possible way.
