Keep going. Even if you fall, don’t let anybody else pick you up. Pick yourself up, dust yourself out and make sure that you learn and grow from that experience.

Shivani Sharma is working as a Research Assistant along with doing PhD from the Department of English in the University College of Social Sciences & Humanities, Udaipur. She says as a Research Assistant, she tries to map and bring the old traditions of the Wagad region to the forefront because of its short narratives and proverbs.
Shivani originally hails from Kumaon division of Uttrakhand but was born and brought up in M.P. She completed her schooling from there itself and then moved to Udaipur. She did her graduation and post graduation from Udaipur itself and was a University rank holder and a double gold medallist. She worked as a guest faculty for Communication Skills and English earlier to pursue her PhD.
As far as hardships are concerned, Shivani says she was very young when she moved to the city and as she was not an Udaipurite so she would feel nostalgic about it. But she thinks that she has learned a lot in this interesting journey so far.
Talking about mistakes, Shivani says that things had never gone as per her plans because she started off as a science student in school then she moved to engineering field but she quit that to opt for law and cleared its entrance but eventually she ended up taking humanity as her field. So she says that her plans didn’t work but she thinks everything happens for a reason and she is happy being where she is today.
Shivani considers her parents and sister to be her role models because they have always shown faith in her and they have always stood by her in every situation. Besides, her professors in the Department of English of MLSU have been extremely supportive towards her in overcoming her anxiety and stress and uplifted her.
About leadership, Shivani doesn't see herself as a leader but she would not mind taking up that position as well if her work demands. Leadership for her is taking up the responsibility of the group of people, leading them and being in-charge. She thinks that she is more of a team worker and not always prepared to take the responsibility and onus on her shoulder.
Shivani is an avid reader and loves reading. She also likes dancing, gardening and travelling apart from work.
If Shivani could go back in time, she wants to go back and spend some more time with her grandparents and relive those moments. Other than that, if she could time travel, she would go back in time to meet ‘Charles Bukowski’, a writer, as she thinks that his writings make a lot of sense.
During the Covid pandemic, Shivni says that she was at ease with no hardships at all. But she lost her grandfather during that time so it was distressing for her and she struggled in coming out of it. Otherwise, she didn’t face any problem.
Shivani thinks that literature is very important for everybody because it makes you more sensitive towards yourself and others around you. She believes that it gives you an opportunity to express yourself and it can change your life as it makes you a more sensitive and sensible person.
