Shiavangini Rathore is currently pursuing her PhD in Agricultural Geography from MLSU, Udaipur.
Shivangini was born in a village in Pali. But she completed her school and college education in Jodhpur. She has done her bachelors and masters.
Shivangini shares that she did not study Geography in her high school. But later her father, citing future prospects, suggested she take Geography as one of her subjects in her bachelors. Initially, she was not much interested in the subject but as she read it, with time she grew interested in the subject. And now she is doing her PhD in the same subject.
Her favourite quote is ‘Best Things are Yet to Come’. This quote motivates her whenever she feels demoralised.
She aims to make a career in the teaching profession and for that she is putting in efforts every day.
She considers her father, who is a retired professor from Agriculture University, Jodhpur, as her role model. She believes in taking out the good qualities of people and imbibing them in her.
Shivangini shares that Geography is a vast subject and it covers a lot of aspects of the world. And the vastness of the subject makes her interested in it. She is specialising in Agricultural Geography. Besides, she says that in almost all the competitive exams some questions on Geography are asked. So, in her opinion, studying the subject always benefits.
Talking about her achievements, she shares that she received a merit certificate from CBSE for scoring good marks in Political Science in her 12th board examinations. Besides, being able to clear the UGC NET-JRF examination is also an achievement for her.
In her free time, she likes to read books and hang out with her friends.
She shares that the Covid pandemic was tough for everyone. Many people faced issues with regard to their health and finances. But she managed herself during the tough times.
She highlights that in India, research in Geography is at the rudimentary stage as opposed to western countries where extensive research in the field of Geography is being done. She also cites the lack of availability of resources to do research in the field at the university level.
Shivangini advises the students of Geography that you should not limit yourself to textbooks only. You should refer to maps, diagrams and YouTube videos to learn more about the topics that you study.
