An actor and musician from Vidisha, Shivam Mehra pursued his passion for theatre after a successful academic stint in commerce and CA. His journey led him to Mumbai, where he worked in films like Zero and Jadugar and credits his mentors for guiding him through his artistic evolution. Despite struggles, Mehra believes in hard work, skill development, and following one's passion.

Shivam Mehra is an actor as well as musician. He has been a drummer too. Mehra reflects on his achievements with humility, emphasising that the most valuable milestones in his life have been the lessons he gained from his theatre journey. He considers the personal growth, confidence, and transformation that theatre brought into his life as his true accomplishments.

However, by society's standards, he acknowledges that being part of a major film like Zero and working alongside stars like Shahrukh Khan—despite coming from a small town with no industry connections in Mumbai—stands out as a significant achievement. Shivam sees these moments as validations of his hard work and perseverance in an industry known for its challenges.

Mehra hails from Vidisha, where he was born and raised. During his senior years in school, he chose to pursue commerce, a decision he now feels fortunate to have made. His passion for the subject grew, with accounts emerging as his favourite. Shivam’s dedication and aptitude in the subject were evident when he topped his class in both 11th and 12th standards. This academic success solidified his decision to pursue a career in Chartered Accountancy (CA). With his goals set, Mehra made the pivotal decision to move to Bhopal to continue his education, enrolling in a graduate program alongside CA coaching to further his ambitions.

Shivam Mehra shares that while he was in Bhopal, he had the opportunity to watch a theatre play by the renowned Alok Chatterjee, which sparked his deep interest in the performing arts. This experience opened a new world for him, igniting a passion for theatre. Reflecting on his artistic inclinations, Mehra reveals that his love for the arts wasn't new; he had been playing the drums since his school days and even formed a band with his friends. He actively participated in several rock band competitions, fuelling his long-standing interest in music and creative expression.

Despite his achievements in the arts, Mehra stayed committed to his academic goals and successfully cleared his CPT (Common Proficiency Test) for CA. However, this left him at a crossroads, torn between continuing his pursuit of Chartered Accountancy or following his newfound passion for theatre.

However, by the time Shivam cleared his CPT, his interest in theatre had already taken root. Drawn to the world of performing arts, he made the bold decision to step into the realm of theatre, marking the beginning of his artistic journey. He spent four life-changing years learning from Alok Chatterjee, an experience he believes played a crucial role in shaping his personality. Mehra believes that theatre has the power to change a person fundamentally, as it did for him, instilling confidence, discipline, and a deeper understanding of human emotions.

After performing in numerous plays and honing his craft, Mehra decided to take the next big step in his career. In 2017, he moved to Mumbai with hopes of making his mark in the Indian film industry, carrying with him the lessons and skills acquired from his theatre days. This move represented not just a career shift but a leap of faith into a competitive industry where he aimed to turn his passion for the arts into a flourishing career.

After moving to Mumbai, Shivam Mehra initially found his footing in the music scene, where he performed in various gigs alongside well-known actors like Prince Narula and Suyyash Rai. Despite facing the inevitable struggles of breaking into the industry, Shivam's persistence began to pay off as he gradually started receiving acting roles. One of his early acting experiences was in the Bollywood movie Zero, where he had the opportunity to work with the legendary Shahrukh Khan.

Mehra’s career continued to gain momentum as he appeared in several web series, broadening his presence in the industry. Most recently, he featured in the Netflix film Jadugar, adding another significant achievement to his growing portfolio. Additionally, he expanded his horizons by working in a Tamil movie centred around actor Pawan Kalyan, showcasing his versatility across different genres and languages.

When asked about his role models, Mehra highlights the significant influence of his mentor, Suyash Srivastava. He credits Suyash for guiding him during his early days of struggle and for introducing him to Alok Chatterjee, a pivotal figure in his acting journey. Mehra deeply appreciates Chatterjee’s mentorship, stating that he has been instrumental in shaping his acting skills and career. Even today, whenever Shivam faces challenges or finds himself at a crossroads, he turns to Alok for advice and guidance, considering him a great source of wisdom and support.

Mehra candidly shares that he has made many mistakes along the way, each of which has served as a learning experience. One of the key reflections he has is about the confusion he faced when choosing a career. He admits that delaying his decision to pursue theatre was a mistake he now recognizes. Shivam believes that had he received proper guidance or counselling earlier, he would have entered the world of arts much sooner, allowing him to develop his passion for acting at an earlier stage in his life. Nonetheless, he values the lessons he has learnt through this journey.

Advising the youth, Shivam Mehra emphasises the importance of passion and skill development for those aspiring to enter the field of arts, especially acting. He encourages young talents to continually polish their abilities and take full advantage of the resources available online. Shivam believes that with the power of the internet, one can learn almost anything and reach great heights, even landing opportunities with major production houses through dedication and hard work.

In his free time, Mehra enjoys pursuing his second passion—drumming. He also takes delight in sketching and singing, using these creative outlets to stay connected with his artistic side outside of acting.
