Shiv Kumar Awar is an Advocate by profession and deals in Corporate, Legal, Taxation and IPR fields. He belongs to a small place called Awar that lies in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. Shiv was born in a family of farmers, studied in a rural area and is currently working in Jaipur.
Talking about his school days, Shiv says that it was very difficult to get the first division in board exams back then. He got second division and came to a town to pursue his further studies. His mother wanted him to become a doctor and even Shiv had an inclination for Biology. He worked hard but unfortunately failed in his 12th standard. His family members gave him the motivation to pick himself up again. Shiv tried his best but ended up failing for the second time, after which his emotions overpowered him and he started having suicidal thoughts.
Bogged down in life, Shiv saw a handicapped person who could only walk with the help of his hands which made him realize that even after such a disability, the man still wanted to live making his way out of the crowd. All of a sudden, Shiv had a self-realization that he had just failed an exam and was thinking of ending his precious life while people continue living theirs with all the challenges and failures life throws at them.
Leaving behind his desire of becoming a doctor, Shiv took up Arts in his 12th and cleared it. Thereafter, he completed his BA in Hindi, Geography and Political Science with first division. Shiv then took admission in LLB, a fancy degree by name but difficult to study. Gathering courage, he started learning Law by referring to cases and by participating in moot courts. Later, after completing his academic and professional aspects of law, he ventured to enroll himself in the Bar Council of Rajasthan.
Shiv, who came from a farmer’s family, found it difficult to pay hefty amounts during the course of his studies. He even appeared for Rajasthan Judicial Services but missed it by one mark. When Shiv stepped into the world of courts, he realized it was not an easy task.
Shiv says that the profession of an advocate has a role to play in social work too and considers it a noble and royal profession. He has learnt along the way from people who have fulfilled their social responsibilities in all walks of life. After passing the law in 2005, Shiv established ‘Awar Lawyers’ incorporating the name of his village ‘Awar’ and decided to contribute a high share of his income in social activities. Later, a self-financed social organization by the name ‘Awar Trust’ was formed dedicated to social work and related activities.
His great grandfather taught him to never rob people of money for one’s own benefit and always follow the path of honesty. Shiv personally doesn't involve himself in cases related to divorce and partnership conflicts and believes in bringing people together.
Shiv feels happy about the introduction of five-year integrated courses in Law which was not there back then. He shares that Law as a subject is divided into central, state and local law acts which function separately and is often neglected by aspiring advocates. He advises the youth to interpret the Law in its true sense, help people in need get justice and update the client with details winning their trust. Shiv shares that a lawyer or an advocate has to tread the path of dealing in laws starting from the local to the international level.
To wind up, Shiv says that it is very important to analyze and perform research to come to a meaningful result in the law profession in which a person’s nature and experience matters a lot.
