Shashi Thakur is many things: an engineer, musician, poet, composer, and homestay owner. Shashi feels that exploring is important in life and it helps you gain knowledge and experience.

Shashi Thakur is from Himachal Pradesh. Shashi runs an eco-friendly homestay by the name of ‘Sukoon Bagh’.

Shashi says that Sukoon Bagh is a completely eco-friendly property and plastic is completely banned by them. They also re-utilize wastewater to grow fruits and vegetables at their farm. Soon, they are also going to start their own product range of vegetables, pickles, juices, and jams under the same name.

Shashi did his schooling in his village itself. He informs that till the 6th standard, he was a mute child and could not speak. After that, he had an operation and got his voice back. However, he faced a stammering problem for a long time.

After schooling, Shashi went to Chandigarh to pursue engineering but his interest was always in the field of arts. He did get a job but soon left it and started exploring the creative field.

He started with music, rapping and making YouTube videos. Shashi also writes poetry and has written around 3000 poems and is thinking of publishing them soon. He has also learned cinematography. However, he laments that even after putting much effort, he could not make much out of any of these fields and returned back to his place during the lockdown.

After returning back, he decided to start a homestay business, and with help of his parents, he redesigned and renovated a place they had right in the center of their farm. Fortunately, this idea picked up well, and now he has a good income from his homestay.

Talking about COVID, Shashi says that since they had around two acres of farmland, they did not have to lock them inside their home and did not feel the effect of lockdown. All the vegetables and pulses etc. were homegrown and hence they did not face much trouble.

Talking about inspirations, Shashi says that his grandfather who was a teacher and a musician is his inspiration. He is also motivated by the works of A. R. Rehman and Gulzar.

Shashi shares that he also follows a quote in life which is,

‘स्वयं के द्वारा अर्जित की गयी शिक्षा ही सर्वोत्तम शिक्षा होती है |’

In his free time, he likes to dedicate himself to creating art like music, poetry, and songs.
