Shalini Arora is a co-founder at ‘Pujya - Senior Citizen Center’ in Udaipur. She says that her objective in getting associated with Pujya was to instill confidence in the minds of the elderly people so that they can speak their minds freely.
Speaking of struggles, Shalini says that initially, she, along with her two other co-founders, distributed many pamphlets etc in the city to promote their center, but it did not get much good response. Then they came up with the idea of doing one-day camps in different areas of the city to get it acknowledged by the people. It worked and slowly they got word-of-mouth publicity. Since then their center started gaining popularity.
Talking about her role models, Shalini says, her parents and her in-laws are her role models because of their innocence and simplicity. Her father was her biggest inspiration for providing her a good life, good education, and good upbringing while suffering everything alone.
Shalini advises everyone to observe the kind of treatment their parents get at ‘Pujya Center’ and the joy that they experience there. She requests everyone to create the same environment for them at your homes and try to keep the elderly mentally healthy. She also advises us to motivate our elders to speak their minds out.
