SC Joshi retired as a Chief Labor Commissioner from the Ministry of Labor and Employment of the Government of India. He was an officer of the 1992 Batch of Central Labor Services.
SC Joshi hails from Udaipur. He completed his schooling and college from Udaipur. He is an alumnus of MLSU. In 1995, he also completed a Masters in Social Work from Udaipur School of Social Work.
Recalling his childhood, Joshi says that his father was posted with the Railways at Mavli Junction in Udaipur and he completed his schooling from Mavli. He remembers that at his school, the atmosphere would be such that both academics and extracurricular activities were equally stressed upon. He played various sports and also focused on his studies which helped him shape his personality all-round.
Talking about his career progression, Joshi says that after completing his masters, he began his professional journey by working in the field of labor and personnel management which used to be considered one of the toughest jobs to work in, owing to frequent strikes of laborers under labor unions. He worked in the private sector for about seven years. He acknowledges that his seniors at his workplace put their trust in him and entrusted him with the responsibilities that added a lot to his learning.
After having worked in the private sector, Joshi decided to do something different. He then appeared for the Central Labor Services Examination conducted by the UPSC and stood seventh in the exam. In 1992, he joined the central labor services and, being in the service, he got to work in various departments of the GOI.
SC Joshi thinks that for one to work in any field or profession it is necessary that one is acquainted with the fundamentals of that field. And for that one’s education plays a crucial role. He says that if one doesn’t have an education then one has to struggle to work in any field.
To people aspiring to work in the central labor services, Joshi advises them to have a thorough knowledge of labor laws along with good human behavior and an understanding of industrial psychology. He tells them that possessing these qualities will help them address and redress the issues of laborers in a better way.
To people working in senior positions in corporations, Joshi advises them to always be disciplined and punctual. He advises them to set an example for their subordinates by practicing what they preach.
Talking about his achievements, Joshi says that being able to reach the highest position in his profession is his biggest achievement.
Reviewing his COVID experience, Joshi says that the pandemic was certainly a challenging situation for us all. However, it taught us to always be ready to face any situation and how to manage crises in life.
In his spare time, Joshi likes to listen to religious hymns and read about labor laws.
