A talented guitarist and music producer of a band, Satyam Srivastava is rooted in a musical family that inspired his passion for music from a young age. After studying audio engineering at KM Conservatory and working on various projects, he embraced live performances during the pandemic and continues to grow as an artist.

Satyam Srivastava is a talented guitarist and music producer with The Badmast Band, a dynamic group based in Pune.

As Srivastava reflects on his musical journey, he emphasizes his roots in a family steeped in musical tradition. His father was a skilled tabla player, and his mother was a gifted singer, both of whom inspired him from a young age. Growing up in such a nurturing environment not only fuelled his passion for music but also provided him with a rich foundation of musical knowledge and tradition, shaping his artistic path and motivating him to create and perform with authenticity and creativity.

When asked about his achievements, Srivastava humbly reflects that his biggest accomplishments are still on the horizon. However, he proudly highlights several notable milestones in his career so far. Among them, he mentions doing guitar arrangements for a series featuring the acclaimed actor R. Madhavan, which was a significant opportunity for him.

Additionally, Srivastava has lent his talents as a background music artist for various advertisements, further expanding his portfolio. He also considers all of his live shows as important accomplishments, as they not only showcase his skills but also fulfil his passion for performing and connecting with audiences.

Satyam Srivastava shares that his musical journey began in class two when he was first introduced to the tabla, which was the initial instrument he explored. However, he soon realised that he didn’t have much interest in playing the tabla, prompting him to transition to the harmonium. It wasn't until he encountered guitars that he truly found his passion. Captivated by the instrument's sound and versatility, Srivastava eagerly embraced the guitar, marking the beginning of his journey as a guitarist. This shift not only aligned with his musical interests but also set the stage for his future endeavours as a musician and producer.

After completing his graduation and exploring various forms of music, Srivastava took a significant step in his career by attending KM Conservatory, the renowned school of music founded by AR Rahman. There, he completed an audio engineering course, which equipped him with the technical skills necessary for music production. Following his training, Srivastava began working as a producer and quickly made a name for himself in the industry. He produced music for several popular shows, including The Adventures of Shiva, Bajrangi, and Tic Tac Tales, showcasing his versatility and creativity in blending diverse musical styles.

He recounts that when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, he made the decision to return to his hometown of Lucknow. During this time, he began collaborating with local musicians, which allowed him to stay connected to his passion for music. One day, out of the blue, the keyboardist of The Badmast Band reached out to him with an exciting opportunity to perform live shows. Recognising this as a chance to fulfil his long-held dream, Srivastava eagerly accepted the offer. This moment marked the beginning of his journey with the band, propelling him into a vibrant world of live performances and musical collaboration.

When discussing his role models, Srivastava shares that he draws inspiration from a diverse array of musicians. His earliest influences in the guitar world include legendary guitarists like John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, and Guthrie Govan, whose technical prowess and creativity have greatly impacted his own playing style.

In the realm of music production, he cites Brian Taylor and Hans Zimmer as significant inspirations, noting how their innovative approaches have shaped his understanding of sound and arrangement. Beyond music, Srivastava finds motivation in literature; he enjoys reading poetry to spark his creativity. He particularly admires the ghazals of renowned artists like Ghulam Ali and Mehdi Hassan, whose lyrical depth resonates with him and influences his musical expression.

Reflecting on his journey with The Badmast Band, Srivastava describes it as a thrilling and unpredictable adventure filled with memorable experiences. He highlights the numerous live shows they've performed, emphasising the collaborative efforts of his team in writing and composing music together.

Satyam Srivastava finds inspiration in the quote, “Work until you make it,” which serves as a driving force in his life. He believes in the importance of setting goals that resonate with one's passions and using one's intellect to pursue them effectively.

To young aspiring musicians, Srivastava offers this sage advice: choose a goal that truly excites you and commit to working on it consistently. With dedication and perseverance, he assures them that success will follow.

Advising the music aspirants, Satyam Srivastava says that knowledge is power. Therefore, if anybody is entering the field of music, they need to make sure that they have enough knowledge about every aspect of this field and the different genres. He further adds that music as a career choice is not preferred by society, so if you want to pursue it as a profession, you need to be ready to rebel.

Reflecting on his mistakes, Srivastava candidly admits that he tends to trust people too quickly. However, he has learnt valuable lessons from these experiences and has taken steps to rectify this tendency, leading to a smoother and more enjoyable journey in his musical career.

To manage stress, Satyam Srivastava turns to poetry and philosophy, finding solace and inspiration in their words. Additionally, he enjoys playing chess, which not only provides a mental challenge but also serves as a refreshing escape from the pressures of life. These activities help him maintain balance and clarity as he navigates his artistic path.
