Sarita Kalele is a Kathak dancer and choreographer in Thane, Mumbai.

Sarita shares that she initially started dancing as a hobby in her childhood. Slowly and gradually, it became her passion, and now it is her profession.

Recalling her childhood, Sarita says that she was blessed to have such great parents. Her parents always supported her in her journey and motivated her to enjoy and learn dance and music. She had a healthy atmosphere at home and always participated in various cultural activities. She completed a master's degree in Political Science at Mumbai University. She also has an Alankar degree in Kathak from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.

Talking about her journey, Sarita says that she started learning dance at the age of ten. She participated in various programmes and also connected with Marathi theatre. Her guru, Uma Dogra, always encouraged her to become a solo dancer, and so she started doing solo shows.  Gradually, she also started teaching others. After marriage, she went to London because she wanted to explore more. She flourished in her dance in London and got help from various organisations like Kala Premi. She started doing programmes and workshops in London and also started teaching dance. Afterwards, she came back to India and started her journey in Kathak again.

When asked about her mistakes, Sarita says that earlier she was getting more inclined towards theatre which would have been a mistake, but she was blessed to have the guidance of her guru, who showed her the right path.

Sharing her achievements, Sarita says that she got the honour to do the Ganda Bandhan ceremony with her guru. She performed at various programmes and was also recognised by many organisations. She was awarded "Singar Mani’ by Sur Singar Sansad and ‘Nalanda Nritya Nipun’ by the Nalanda institution. She also has the ‘Alankar’ degree from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. She also choreographed the dancers of the Winter Carnival and performed at various grand festivals in the UK and India too.

Sarita’s role models are her parents and her guru, as she learned a lot from them and they always supported her. She also admires her husband and her sister, as they have always inspired her to move forward.

To beat stress, Sarita likes to be with her family. She also does ‘riyaz’ to attain mental peace.

Sarita’s life mantra is to continue doing work.
