Sanjay Kurmi is a Mumbai-based Cinematographer and a Film Editor. He has been associated with and working in this profession for the past seven years.
Sanjay shares that his journey started when he was in 6th grade. He was fond of photography so he bought his first camera at that time and started working by shooting weddings in his village.
Sanjay was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh but brought up in Mumbai. He says, crossing many ups and downs in his life from a young age, he could manage to complete his schooling till 10th std. He managed his further studies with extreme efforts and a one-year gap, facing many troubles and doing different jobs. Next, he started a job in sales after taking a two-years drop again to save money for his further studies. At the same time, he never gave up his passion for photography, and that was his salvation later on.
Sanjay then did a one-year course in cinematography. Later on, he worked as an assistant cinematographer. Soon, he started getting big projects and the way for his progress started opening. In a short span of time, he made a good place for himself in the industry. Gradually, he got into editing as well and as of today, he has more work in editing.
Recalling his childhood, Sanjay says that in his childhood, he used to get fascinated by doctors and so he aspired to become one. But his family’s economic conditions could not support his dream, due to which his dream could not be fulfilled.
Speaking of role models, Sanjay says he considers his parents as his role models for always being supportive and motivating. His mentor, Aniket Khandakar is also his role model for teaching him technical aspects of cinematography and for believing in him.
Describing his struggles, Sanjay says that due to a lack of financial stability at home, he started working at a young age. He provided financial support to his family by doing various works and also completed his studies with his own money.
Talking about his pastime activities, Sanjay says he is very fond of writing scenes, plays, songs, or poems. He also enjoys exploring new things and updating himself in his field from time to time.
Sanjay advises everyone that constant hard work is required to achieve the goals and if you give up at any point, your distance from your goals will increase further.
