A musician, performer and teacher, Sandeep tries to inspire young people with his advice “never leave things in the middle.” He believes that if a person is passionate about something, they should never stop pursuing it.

Sandeep Singh is a freelance musician and performer. He is  the founder of Glee Music Academy in Dehradun. He also teaches music at Welham Boys School.

Sandeep graduated from Trinity College in London. He had always been interested in singing and playing music, and his passion for this subject grew gradually. He eventually chose to pursue a career in music. He has been working in the field of music for the last thirty years.

Recalling his childhood, Sandeep says that he used to play games and was more inclined towards studies in his childhood. He had an interest in music since his childhood. However, his parents didn’t motivate him to choose music as a profession.

Describing his journey, Sandeep states that he encountered numerous hurdles as a youngster in the realm of music because there were fewer possibilities and resources available at the time. While he was in tenth grade, he decided to learn to play the harmonium and borrowed a second-hand harmonium from his cousin. He began to practise it over his summer holidays, and afterwards he started playing it at various gatherings in school and college. He had to go six kilometres away from his home to learn music.

He took music as a subject in college and decided to enter this profession. He applied for various vacancies in the music field, but he always wanted to be a stage performer. Afterwards, he graduated in music from Trinity College in London and also did various other courses like technician, recordist, etc. and started giving stage performances.

Speaking about his experiences, Sandeep says that he gained great insights from his journey. He worked at different places and in different languages to earn experience. He got the lesson of never stopping and being persistent in your work.

When asked about his mistakes, Sandeep says that he learned to play the violin from the wrong medium and lost interest in playing it. Sandeep advises young musicians not to repeat the mistakes that he made in the past. He believes that it is important to choose the right guru to attain success.

Sharing his achievements, Sandeep says that he did various stage shows, which are his accomplishments. He worked with various bands in different languages like English, Hindi, Bengali, and many more. He also worked in various music albums, TV serials, Doordarshan, the Lashkara channel, and the ETC Punjabi channel. Running his own music institute with seven music teachers who are also his students is an achievement for him, he says.

Sandeep’s role model is R.D. Burman, and he says he learned music by listening to his songs.

To beat stress, Sandeep likes to play the piano, as it gives him mental peace.

Advising aspirants to his field, Sandeep says that you should not bind yourself to a single thing or to a single standard. Music is open to everyone, and it must be enjoyed at any place and in any form. Youngsters should learn classical music to make their foundation strong and must have proper knowledge about music. Education in music is also important to achieve success in this field.
