Fashion isn’t just glamour—it’s dedication, effort, and perseverance.
Sakshi Mehta is a dedicated Faculty Member at INIFD, Udaipur, who mentors aspiring fashion designers in Management, Marketing, and Portfolio Development.
With over four years of experience in the fashion industry, she has worked with renowned designers and leading textile companies. Passionate about nurturing creativity, she empowers students to transform their love for fashion into successful professional careers.
Her career in fashion began as early as in 9th class, when she decided to pursue a career as a fashion designer and started preparing herself with dedication.
Over the years, she has enhanced her skills through various workshops, training sessions, and residential programs, gaining both creative and professional expertise to strengthen her role as a mentor and industry professional.
Sakshi Mehta completed her schooling at St Mary’s Convent School, followed by a B.Com from MLSU University and a B.Sc. in Fashion Designing from INIFD, graduating in 2017.
Sakshi Mehta was the first student from Udaipur selected to attend the Virtual Visualisation Workshop in Bangkok, marking a significant milestone in her fashion career.
Passionate about the profession of fashion designing, she has actively worked across multiple domains of the industry, including management, assistant designing, marketing, production, and the overall design process.
Her versatility and dedication reflect her commitment to excelling in every aspect of fashion, making her a true inspiration for aspiring designers.
In the initial stage of choosing Fashion Designing as her career, Sakshi Mehta faced social stereotypes that labelled the field as merely a “glamorous world”. During that time, many people considered professions like civil services, CA, or engineering as more respectable career choices.
With limited knowledge about the fashion industry among the parents, and due to stereotypical thinking, she initially felt uncertain and even guilty about her decision.
However, her passion and determination helped her in overcoming these challenges, proving that fashion designing is not just about glamour but also about creativity, hard work, and innovation.
In 2017, Sakshi Mehta achieved a remarkable milestone by being selected as the first designer representative from Rajasthan at the New York Fashion Designer event. This prestigious opportunity not only showcased her creative talent on an international platform but also instilled a new level of confidence in her career.
It marked a turning point where she realised her true potential in the fashion sector and embraced a strong sense of pride in contributing to a respected and impactful profession.
Belonging to Udaipur, with her native roots in Pali, Rajasthan, Sakshi Mehta comes from a small town where opportunities in fashion designing were limited. This background meant she had to put in extra effort and determination to establish herself in the competitive fashion industry.
Even today, she continues to face challenges, but her resilience, constant learning, and dedication to self-improvement drive her forward, making her a true example of perseverance in the world of fashion.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, while working at a home textile firm in Udaipur with nearly 30–35 workers and artisans, Sakshi Mehta faced the challenge of continuing her professional journey amid uncertainty. As the infection spread rapidly, her family advised her to stay home rather than risk going to the office.
This phase tested her resilience, adaptability, and sense of responsibility, shaping her perspective on balancing career growth with health and safety in difficult times.
The COVID-19 phase was especially challenging for her, as fashion designing is a field that requires personal interaction and on-site presence, which could not be managed from home.
During this time, she faced difficulties in communicating with clients only through phone calls, which limited opportunities and added to her struggles.
However, the pandemic also had a positive impact on her professional outlook. She realised that if someone is truly determined, work can still be managed digitally and through remote communication.
It was during this period that she discovered the potential of freelancing in fashion designing, opening a new path to pursue creative opportunities even when regular work was disrupted.
Sakshi Mehta draws inspiration from her mother and elder sister, who have always motivated her to handle both personal and professional challenges with positivity. Their constant encouragement reminds her that with perseverance, success will eventually follow.
She also considers her husband an inspiring personality in her life, as his determination and hard work motivate her to stay focused, work diligently, and remain committed to her goals in the fashion industry.
Sakshi Mehta shares that if given a time machine, she would love to relive her childhood days, a phase of life filled with joy, innocence, and freedom from responsibilities. For her, those moments represent a time of pure happiness and carefree living, which continue to inspire her to balance work and life with positivity.
INIFD Faculty Member Sakshi Mehta believes that every opportunity, whether big or small, should be embraced without hesitation, as each step contributes to growth. She advises budding designers to understand that the fashion industry is not just about glamour—it demands hard work, perseverance, and resilience.
According to her, staying focused and motivated and learning from personal experiences is the key to building a successful career and achieving long-term growth in life.
In today’s world, many people wonder why they are not achieving success despite working hard. Sharing her mother’s wisdom, Sakshi Mehta emphasises the importance of focusing on effort rather than outcomes.
Her mother always says, “Do your work; do not wait for the outcome.” Both she and her mother believe that sincere efforts never go to waste, and in time, one receives double the reward for hard work and dedication.
