Always pursue what truly brings joy to your heart.
Sakina Alamshah begins her #Meri Kahani with some inspiring lines-
Sakina Alamshah is a Beautician and freelance Makeup Artist by profession, but poetry is her true passion.
Since childhood, she had been deeply fascinated by two things—Makeup and Writing. She always had a deep love for poetry and shayari, often expressing her thoughts through words. However, for a long time, her verses remained confined within the pages of her diary, tucked away in a cupboard, unseen by the world.
It was her daughter, a successful poet in her own right, who became the catalyst for change. Sakina would accompany her daughter to various poetry events, always supporting and applauding her from the sidelines. One day, her daughter encouraged her, saying, "You write so beautifully, but why don’t you perform?" This simple yet powerful question ignited a new sense of confidence within Sakina.
Motivated by her daughter's words, Sakina Alamshah decided to step on to the stage. Whenever she attended events with her daughter and got an opportunity, she seized the moment and recited her poetry. What started as a hidden passion has now blossomed into a path of self-expression, where her words no longer remain confined to the pages of a diary but resonate with audiences far and wide.
One of Poetess Sakina Alamshah’s greatest achievements has been having many of her literary works broadcast on Akashvani. What once seemed like an unexpected turn in her life has now led her to multiple platforms where she can share her passion for poetry.
Initially, she aspired to establish her identity solely as a beautician and freelance makeup artist, believing that was the path meant for her. However, fate had different plans. Today, she is not only recognized for her artistry in beauty and makeup, but also for her work as a writer and poet. The fact that people now know her because of her passion for poetry brings her immense joy and fulfillment.
Freelance Makeup Artist & Poet Sakina Alamshah shares that she primarily writes in a satirical and humorous style. She believes that conveying messages in a lighthearted manner helps people connect emotionally while making them more receptive to the deeper meaning behind her words.
Reflecting on her career, Writer Alamshah recalls the challenges she faced as a beautician and parlour owner. For nearly 8 to 9 years, she ran her own beauty parlour, but the path was far from easy. One of the biggest setbacks came with Demonetization, which had a significant impact on her business. Just as she was trying to recover, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, causing widespread fear and uncertainty among clients.
As if these hurdles weren’t enough, she also had to battle personal health issues, including a major surgery, which forced her to make the difficult decision of shutting down her parlour. For a year, she focused on recovery, taking much-needed bed rest.
However, her resilience never wavered. Instead of giving up, she reinvented herself by stepping into the world of freelance makeup artistry. Her strong network of clients from her parlour days helped her transition smoothly into freelancing. Today, she continues to work as a Freelance Makeup Artist, a profession that not only sustains her but also brings her immense happiness and fulfillment.
Beautician Sakina Alamshah shares that her family always encouraged her to pursue a stable, well-paying job since she had completed her post-graduation. They often questioned her decision to become a beautician and makeup artist, wondering why she chose this path instead of a traditional career.
However, Alamshah had always been determined to carve her own unique identity, rather than simply following societal expectations. From a young age, she was deeply fascinated by cosmetics and beauty, which led her to choose this field despite the doubts around her.
Alongside her love for beautician’s work, she has been passionate about writing. In fact, she has been writing for over 25 years now and continues to do so with the same enthusiasm. For her, both Makeup Artistry and Poetry are not just professions but deep-rooted passions that define who she is.
Reflecting on her early years, Beautician and Poet Sakina Alamshah says she hails from Udaipur, where she completed her schooling at Saifee Montessori School, a well-known institution within her community. She later pursued her higher studies at M.G. College, Udaipur.
However, when she decided to follow her passion for the beauty field and enrolled in a Beautician Course, she faced strong resistance from her family. They believed it was not a reputable profession and discouraged her from pursuing it. But Sakina was determined. She took a bold step—selling her gold chain to arrange ₹3,000 for the course, and secretly completed her training.
Her dedication didn’t stop there. She went on to receive advanced training in beauty and makeup, both in India and abroad, honing her skills at an international level. Eventually, she fulfilled her dream of opening her own beauty parlour, marking the beginning of an incredible career filled with passion, perseverance, and success.
She considers Sandeep Maheshwari as her role model in every phase of life. She often watches his motivational videos, which inspire her deeply. In fact, she even calls him her celebrity crush!
Among the many songs that keep her motivated, one that holds a special place in her heart is "Kachha Ghada" by Rahgir.
Today, distinguished poet Sakina has access to multiple platforms where she performs regularly, including the Lafzon Ki Mehfil, Yug Dhara, and Udaipur Tales. However, her biggest achievement remains the moment when her poem was aired on Akashvani (All India Radio)—a milestone she cherishes deeply.
In recognition of her talent and contributions, she has been honored with several prestigious awards, including the SHE Award and the Baghban Award. Beyond her artistic pursuits, Sakina also dedicates time to social service, giving back to the community whenever she gets the opportunity.
Sakina Alamshah firmly believes in the power of listening to one’s heart. She advises, "Those who constantly listen to the world often fail to carve their own path. That’s why it’s essential to follow your heart."
She strongly advocates multitasking, emphasizing that a person can possess multiple talents and successfully pursue both their passion and profession together. In her words, “Life can take unexpected turns at any moment, and we never know which skill will lead us to success and recognition. That’s why it’s important to follow what truly brings us joy.”
Her message to everyone is simple yet profound:
Makeup Artist and Writer Sakina wears many hats—she is a Homemaker, Beautician, Freelance Makeup Artist, and Writer. Managing all these roles requires effective time management and focus. She believes that anyone can be a multitasker with the right balance of dedication and discipline.
Her career is a testament to the fact that with passion, patience, and perseverance, success is inevitable.
