Sagarika Roy is a Bharatanatyam Dancer and Teacher at Nath Valley School in Aurangabad. She earned her ‘Sangeet Visharad’ in Chandigarh.
Recalling her childhood, Sagarika reminisces about the joys of playing outdoors with friends. However, she always remembered to study well too. She pursued higher education, earning a degree and later a B.Ed.
Throughout her journey, Sagarika found unwavering support from her parents, who encouraged her passion for dance, and her mentor, whose guidance illuminated her path. Despite facing adversity after her father's passing, she persevered with the backing of her mother and her husband after her marriage.
Sagarika believes that teaching is a profession where we get to learn something new every day. She claims that learning is a continuous process.
While initially hesitant about integrating modern technology into her work, Sagarika eventually embraced its benefits.
Regarding her accolades, Sagarika highlights her performances across India and abroad, along with receiving the Sanjukta Panigrahi Award in classical Bharatanatyam. She also expanded her knowledge through courses in Natya Shastra from Kalamandalam and learned Flamenco from Rosana Maya.
When asked about her role models, Sagarika shares that her dance guru and her parents have been inspirational to her and have taught her how to face struggles in life.
Talking about her challenges, Sagarika admits feeling tense while assessing student report cards and ensuring fairness in grading. She shares that even today, she feels nervous before performing on stage. However, she believes that remaining calm and positive has helped her with her anxiety.
Sagarika's life mantra is pursuing perfection in all endeavours, advocating positive thinking and patience in decision-making.
For young individuals, Sagarika advises careful career consideration, emphasising the importance of seizing opportunities that life presents.
