Never give up amid struggles, and the future will be yours.
Sachin Joshi has been working as an advocate for 20 years now. Born in Dungarpur, Rajasthan, he completed his schooling at Central Academy and Guru Gobind Singh Senior Secondary School. Thereafter, he did his LLB from BN College, inspired by his father and grandfather, who themselves were in this profession.
Sachin shares that, owing to health issues, his father couldn’t appear for court cases, and he had to take the plunge to face courts at an early stage of his law career. He says that the opportunity came with good experiences and learning outcomes.
Sachin says that the working style of courts has changed since he joined. Now, it is both manual and electronic. He adds that during his time, the newcomers used to be very dedicated to their seniors, and their first preference was to gain knowledge. However, he feels that the present generation of lawyers gives more importance to the economic side of the profession than gaining knowledge.
Sachin laments that the seniors practicing in the subordinate, district, and lower courts don’t receive any compensation from the government to provide any kind of stipend to the juniors.
Discussing COVID, Sachin, who himself contracted the virus, says that the advocates who belong to higher society didn’t face any issues as such since they were financially stable. He feels that the government should aid the lower court advocates with a stipend, certain subsidies, or monetary benefits so that they don’t run into a financial crisis.
Sachin believes that if one can survive amid struggles, then they can become the best advocates in today’s time. As a message to the aspiring advocates, he says that they should keep themselves updated with the ongoing amendments to face the courts and get justice for their clients. He adds that it is important to present your cases politely, encourage discussion, and be prepared to study all your life since an advocate is a lifetime student.
To wrap up, Sachin says that if advocates are not able to survive, then the entire impact comes on the system, which is slowly progressing towards dictatorship, resulting in the collapse of our democratic setup.
