Hailing from a rural background, SK Katariya too had his share of struggles like that of any village boy, but he always believed in himself and his hard work and was able to make his own identity as an academic.

SK Katariya has been working in the department of Public Governance at MLSU, Udaipur for the past nine years. His previous work experience includes working at Government College, Bikaner.

SK Katariya originally hails from Neemrana, Alwar. His father was a primary teacher. He studied till secondary level in his village only. and then he did a General Nursing Diploma at Government Hospital, Alwar. Thereafter he got his first posting as a male nurse at SMS Hospital, Jaipur. He simultaneously pursued BA and MA.

Katariya was the eldest son in the family and to support his family, he had to leave his school education in between and do the nursing diploma.

Katariya also got the opportunity to work on a World Bank project as a Research Officer. Later he got selected as a lecturer through RPSC. He taught at different colleges in different cities. Then he did his PostDoc at Rajasthan University, Jaipur. Then he got transferred to Government College, Bikaner. Meanwhile, he stumbled upon a teaching vacancy at MLSU, Udaipur and he applied there. In 2012. He joined MLSU and has been working there ever since.

Katariya hailed from a middle-class family, he too had dreams like that of any middle-class boy. He too had his share of struggles from growing up in a village to settling in a city to earn a livelihood.

Katariya was always keen on writing. He wrote for many journals, magazines etc.

He shares three reasons behind anybody’s success: 1. Knowing what’s good for you and then continue working on it. 2. Always telling the truth 3. Applying your intelligence at the right time when the right opportunity strikes.

Katariya has considered many people of the likes of Bhagat Singh, Maharana Pratap etc. as his role models. He also found his role model in Swami Vivekananda later in his life. Besides, his father has also been an inspiration to him.

Katariya shares that the Covid pandemic disrupted everything. And during this period, to shift from offline to online mode of teaching seemed a bit of a challenge to him. He says that the online mode of teaching is one-way teaching which lacks active participation from students. Besides, he adds that the students who hail from tribal and rural backgrounds, still do not have access to electronic gadgets and the Internet so this mode of teaching excludes them from the mainstream. Furthermore, he says that it distracts students and continuously spending time on mobile screens dries their eyes.

Katariya likes to listen to the radio. He also likes to write and has received many awards for his literary work. He also does all his chores himself and he believes that doing your chores yourself is the best physical exercise that you can do.
