You can't learn to fly if you don't know how to fall.
You can't learn to fly if you don't know how to fall.
Rutu Patel is working as a Fashion Design faculty member at the VCD College of Design, Udaipur. She also owns a clothing line with the name “Label Rutu Patel.”
Speaking about her professional journey, Rutu says that she had been a studious child since childhood, so she opted for science and math as her major subjects after tenth grade. But Rutu knew that she did not want to do engineering.
Because her artistic skills were good, and she was driven by fashion, her brother told her to pursue a career at NIFT. She tried for it and got an admission to the institute. She completed her course at the institute where many young fashion enthusiasts in the country aspire to go. She says that after working for many years with good designers who have showcased their designs in prestigious fashion shows like Lakme Fashion Week, she thought of starting her own label.
Describing her COVID experience, Rutu says that where everyone's businesses were shutting down, her clothing line business was at its peak. She says that because everything was closed and there was nothing much to do, shopaholics increased her business a lot by shopping online. But unfortunately, her entire family, including her, got infected by the virus. She couldn't focus on her business because her parents were in such critical condition. But by the grace of God, her family got cured, and she also delivered all her orders by making special requests to her customers. She now believes that no matter what happens, she will not be shaken; she is fully prepared to deal with any situation.
Rutu says that her favorite quote is “Never take your success too seriously.” She believes that just before the flight, you have to fall; if you do not know how to fall, then you can never learn how to fly.
Rutu advises aspiring fashion designers to keep their first few designs under observation for a few days because seeing them every day for a few days will inspire them to change something, and the final design will be fresh. A fashion designer, according to her, should always be aware of global fashion, changes, and trends. She also advises that a designer should always be aware of the needs of their clients.
Rutu loves listening to music in her free time. Apart from this, she likes to share things about the whole day with her friends and mother. A social interaction with her loved ones makes her calm and relaxed.
Rutu advises parents not to force their children to study science or math only. Give your kid the freedom to choose the subjects they want to learn. She opines that we need designers just as much as we need doctors or engineers, so if a youngster is talented in the arts, encourage them to pursue a career in design.
