Recalling her childhood, Rupa says that in her family her father and uncle both used to play musical instruments and her grandfather was a singer. Motivated by such an environment, she started learning dance at the age of three. She learned Kathak under the guidance of her guru Dipti Dey and Bharatanatyam from Sanjit Das. After completing her graduation and dance diplomas she got married. After marriage she stopped dancing for a long time and forgot that she was a classical dancer. Some time afterwards, her husband supported and encouraged her to start her dance practice again. Thus, after four years of her marriage, she started her own dance school and is still continuing with it. Her parents, husband and son have all supported her a lot throughout her journey.
