R S Shekhawat comes from an Army background. In the army, he was In-charge of training and recruitment for thirty years. He retired as a Subedar Major. Currently, he runs an army education and training center under the name ‘Aapjee Army Academy’ in Vadodara, Gujarat. He says he had entered the Indian Army as a new entrant in 1984.
Shekhawat shares that after his retirement, at the behest of the Station Commander of Vadodara, he started a training and education center for army candidates in Gujarat to fill the void of appropriate training institutes there. He was quite skeptical about it initially. But over the years, it has emerged as the best Army Academy in Gujarat.
Shekhawat was born and brought up in Gujarat but originally his roots belong to the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. He did his schooling from Gujarat. Then he did his B.Com from Seth Motilal PG College, Jhunjhunu. Thereafter, he gave three government competitive exams in three different verticals, and fortunately, he qualified in them all. He says that his father had been a soldier of the ‘Azad Hind Fauj.’ To fulfill his father’s wish, he chose to join the Indian Army.
Talking about his inspirations, Shekhawat says he considers Narendra Modi and APJ Abdul Kalam as his role models for reaching bigger positions in life by doing small jobs.
Shekhawat requests all the army aspirants to meet all the joining criteria with your hard work and enter it on your own instead of any recommendation or you will not be able to go a long way. Further, he says that either go ahead with the guidance of a recognized academy or a retired army officer to move further in this field.
Shekhawat believes that the army mandates you to follow a strict and scheduled routine timetable that keeps your body fit and free from any disease. He adds that this routine is not followed in any other business or profession and this is an important reason to consider why people are falling prey to diseases. So he advises the coming generation to join the army and keep themselves fit while doing a work of repute.
Shekhawat inspires the youth to choose a field for themselves first and never stray from that. He adds that it is better to do whatever you want to do than to lose yourself in the crowd. Further, it doesn’t matter what your background or financial status is, no work is small. If you do your work with full hard work and dedication, you will be able to fly high in life.
