Rohit Nitin Garge is from Pune and he is the founder of Flips and Fitness - a physical fitness and sports club based in Pune. Besides, he is also a national level Gold medalist, a certified coach from SAI. He has acted as a judge at various Gymnastics competitions.
Born and raised in Nashik, Rohit came to Pune for his further studies and later he settled there only. He completed his school education and Bachelors in Nashik itself. He did his B.P.Ed. from Pune. Recently he also completed his M.P.Ed from Pune itself.
Rohit shares that he first got fascinated toward Gymnastics when he saw his cousin perform the same and it was a turning point in his life as later he took to Gymnastics and sports full time.
Rohit says that he was doing good as a gymnast until he suffered an injury. Instead of giving up, he became a coach and was able to unlock many more opportunities for himself as a coach.
Rohit thinks that Gymnastics is the mother of all sports and he says that it's very important to train a child from a young age itself in Gymnastics for their holistic development. He adds that Gymnastics can improve a child’s overall strength, body mobility and flexibility.
Talking about Covid, Rohit says that due to the pandemic gymnasts could not participate in any competitions and to keep practicing without participating in any competitions or tournaments made them feel frustrated. Besides, he says that many coaches had to struggle financially as they had exhausted their savings during the pandemic. However, he says that the pandemic taught us the importance of being patient and cooperative with others.
Rohit is happy that the GOI is incentivizing sports persons and gymnasts through various initiatives like Khelo India, etc.
According to Rohit a leader is someone who takes everyone along to achieve the common goal.
Talking about setbacks in his life, Rohit says that during one of his practice sessions, his left shoulder got injured which was a setback for him as he had been preparing for an international championship for a long time but he could not participate in that owing to the injury. It was emotionally devastating for him, however his coach and family members consoled him and he could bounce back. He appeared in the national trials for an international championship and came third in that.
Rohit thinks that at times hard work is not enough, you should work smart too. He believes in just working without worrying about the results of his actions.
In his spare time, Rohit likes to spend time with his family and read books. Besides, he also likes to go solo traveling.
To aspiring sportspeople, Rohit says that sports has a good future and there are many government schemes to benefit from as a sportsperson. Besides, he advises them to initially just play without focusing on results. Furthermore, he advises them to be hardworking and focused toward their sport.
