From engineering to social entrepreneurship, Rohit's journey has been inspirational. Driven by his passion for social service, he created a platform that could be used to channel youth energy toward meaningful causes. He also led several successful awareness campaigns, like 'Rang De Jaipur'.

Rohit Agarwal, the founder of Contree, established the organisation in 2016 with a vision to encourage and build a culture of community service nationwide.

Born and raised in Jaipur, Rohit pursued his Master’s in Regulatory Governance at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. During his studies, he travelled the country and engaged with diverse communities. He observed a desire among local youth to voice their concerns and opinions on pressing issues. However, he noticed that these discussions often led to endless debates rather than tangible solutions.

When Rohit was working as an area manager in his first job, he realised the need to quit and create a platform channelling youth energy. In 2016, he founded Contree, a social venture offering voluntary opportunities for people.

Under the aegis of Contree, Rohit has led various campaigns to raise awareness. One such initiative was 'Rang De Jaipur' or 'Let’s Colour Jaipur', mobilising youth and artists to revitalise public spaces. They cleaned and painted old, dirty areas, transforming them into vibrant, clean spaces.

Talking about his childhood, Rohit shares that he was born in Haryana but raised in Jaipur due to his father's job. Always curious, he enjoyed interacting with people and excelled academically. He opted for the science-maths stream after completing his 10th grade and then pursued engineering. However, during his engineering career, he realised it wasn't his lifelong passion. He even attempted the UPSC Civil Service Exams but could not crack them. Subsequently, he pursued a master's at TISS, Mumbai, and briefly worked in a corporate role in 2015.

Sharing his achievements, Rohit highlights the confidence gained from working with his team over the past five years. Together, they have successfully executed numerous city-wide campaigns and mobilised people beyond his expectations.

Rohit acknowledges the mixed impact of COVID, noting both positives and negatives. He sees a silver lining in the pandemic, providing a chance to reflect back. During this time, he generated several innovative project ideas and even launched a small local news channel. However, financial challenges forced him to pause some of his projects temporarily.

Though Rohit has no desire to revisit the past, if required, he would opt for Humanities over Engineering. He believes it would have better equipped him to make an impact on a larger scale. Nonetheless, he acknowledges that his engineering background moulded him into a dynamic, multidimensional personality.

Rohit enjoys digital content, finding it helpful for understanding and analysing things. He's a big fan of tennis, especially Rafael Nadal, and he loves running marathons. Running has taught him to persevere and even inspired him to start his own venture.

His advice to those starting something new is to approach it with a problem-solving mindset and the right attitude. He believes in knowing yourself well before making big decisions and staying true to yourself.

Rohit draws inspiration from quotes like "The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war" and "Who looks outside, dreams, who looks inside, awakens." He strongly believes that being aware is good, but taking action is better.
