You always get what you deserve, if you work for it.
You always get what you deserve, if you work for it.
RJ Mahiya hails from a small village named Sheoganj in Udaipur. When Mahiya was in school she never really liked to study. She never had any idea that later in life she would pursue mass communication or media. She would always find her interests in modeling, meeting new people, and making connections with them. She barely managed to pass her 10th standard examinations and her parents were very concerned about her as to whether she would do something in her life or not.
Mahiya says that when she entered college for her graduation, she had no knowledge about journalism, media, and mass communication. It was her elder sister who would always motivate her to push her boundaries. Mahiya says that one of her teachers advised her to do voice-overs as she had a good voice.
Talking about struggles in her career Mahiya says that initially, she worked really hard to land an opportunity at Radio. For a month every day, she went to a radio station just to work there. After a month of hustle, she finally got an internship at that radio station. Often people would compare her and doubt her abilities. But Mahiya always believed in herself and let her work speak for herself. After a year of working with radio as an intern, she finally landed a full-time job. Now she is working as an RJ with 94.3 MY FM, Udaipur.
Mahiya advises that you should never doubt yourself. Never think that you can’t do it and should give it up. Nobody is going to pick you up and take you along; you have to find your own path.
Mahiya considers her father her role model. She says that her father always taught her to help others. Her father always treated everyone with love and affection and that’s the quality she got from her father.
To anyone who wants to join radio, Mahiya advises that you should be yourself. Radio is a safe job for girls. Besides, you can enroll yourself in relevant mass communication courses to know about radio and how the media industry works. You can also intern at any radio station and refine yourself.
Mahiya says that in your life your experience matters more. It doesn't really matter what grades you got in school. It’s not necessary that you need to read books and know about general knowledge to succeed in your life.
Mahiya says that hailing from a remote village she was also subject to the ills of patriarchal society. Still people in her village comment on her dressing and her lifestyle. But her mother has always been supportive of her.
Talking about her childhood, Mahiya says that her father always supported her. He raised all of her 4 siblings well. She shares that once her father dropped her at school and she forgot to bring her tiffin box, so her father took out a ten-rupee note and gave it to her. She still reminisces about that incident.
If she could go back in time and undo something, Mahiya would want to pursue modeling and then make a career in fashion designing. She would always want to do for her all that she could not do.
Mahiya likes to get herself clicked and upload her pictures on social media. She also likes to experiment with her hair and likes to color them. She also likes to go to old age homes and give makeovers to old people.
