Be the person who inspires others.
Ritunsha Garg is an artist and owner of Paray Arts in Jaipur. She is also a counselor and a philosopher.
Ritunsha shares that she had always wanted to become a famous painter like M.F. Hussain, ever since she was in sixth grade at her school. She wanted to become a role model for others, just like the legendary painter. When she grew up, she took personal art coaching and then went to Mumbai to graduate in Fine Arts from there. When she came back, she did a lot of research and started her own brand.
Talking about her childhood, Ritunsha says that she was born and brought up in Jaipur. She remembers her childhood, which was great fun as she was raised in a joint family. She recalls having a great childhood, playing and enjoying herself with her cousins. Even in her childhood, she was always drawing and painting, and she was very serious about art.
Speaking about her struggles, Ritunsha says that it was very difficult to convince her family members that art is a proper career. Everyone considered it to be just a hobby and not a proper career. Everyone said there was no money in art. However, this attitude triggered something inside her and strengthened her resolve. She is grateful that her father always supported her.
But when she was in Art College and saw seniors struggling to establish themselves in the market and struggling to make money out of art, she also had her doubts. But she decided that during college she would only concentrate on learning. And she would think about the commercial aspects of art later.
When she came back to Jaipur, she started her brand and tried hard to establish it. She even hired a person to handle her social media accounts, but she was unable to sell a single work of hers in eight months. She was doing everything, promoting her brand at events and social gatherings, but nothing was helping. It was a big struggle. She did not know how to pay her employees. She asked her father to give her some money to pay them, but he said that if he gave her money, she would start taking it for granted. Now, she thanks her father for refusing to pay her.
This forced her to look for a job. She got a job and earned at least that much so that she could pay the salaries to her staff. She started reviewing her strategy and questioning what was wrong with her planning. She found at least twenty mistakes in her strategy. She corrected them and started afresh. Her brand instantly started looking up, and her paintings started to sell. Now, she conducts webinars on ‘How to Sell Art?’.
Advising aspirants to her field, Ritunsha says that it is important to pursue an art course. She says that newbies should think from the customer’s viewpoint and always try to earn their trust. She met instant success when she reduced the price of her work. She also says that artwork should be connected to stories.
Ritunsha’s role model is her father. He told her the truth about business. He advised her that when you are on a high, be prepared for a fall. She got her passion for hard work from him. She is also inspired by her HOD at the art college.
Sharing her COVID experiences, Ritunsha says it was a good time for her. At the insistence of many people, she started teaching art online, and there has been no turning back. Her daily art classes and workshops are highly appreciated by her students.
If given a time machine to travel back in time, Ritunsha would have liked to go to Europe for her post-graduation in art.
In her free time, Ritunsha is always busy with her art, which never goes away from her. However, she also loves listening to calm music and traveling.
Ritunsha’s success mantra is to inspire others and become their role model. She also feels that honesty is very important in every field for growth.
Ritunsha’s message for everyone is that "There will be hurdles in life. At times you would have doubts that you can’t do it, but always remember what you wanted to become in life, and the doubts would go away.” Aspire as big as you can; even if you reach fifty percent of your aspirations, that will be good. Never lose hope.
