Richa Aneja is a singer and performer by profession. She was one of the top contestants of Indian Idol 3.
Richa hails from Amritsar. She completed her formal education in Amritsar itself. She did a Bachelors in Music (Vocal) and Elective English. Then she did a Masters in Performing Arts.
Richa shares that she started singing at the age of seven. People would love her voice and advise her to train in music and pursue singing. Following people’s advice, she took her music training under the guidance of a guru hailing from the Gwalior Gharana. Besides, she says that she would perform at her school events, youth festivals, singing shows, etc,
At sixteen, Richa auditioned for Indian Idol 3 when the team of the same came down to Amritsar for auditions and selection of participants. Clearing various stages of the show from theater to gala round, she finally made it to the top ten contestants. However, she could not win the show. She thinks that if she would have been a bit older then she would have won the show. Nonetheless, she continued her musical journey and later was awarded with many awards for her singing performances.
Talking about her achievements, Richa says that she won the Woman of the Year Award from Colors TV. She also won a Women Pride Award from Dainik Bhaskar Group, Chandigarh. Besides, she was given a Young Artist Award by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, GOI. Further, she was a university merit holder in her bachelors. She also stood first in her masters.
Richa says that when she participated in Indian Idol 3, she was still in high school. After participating in the show, she completed her schooling, and then bachelors and masters. After completing her masters, she joined as an assistant professor of music (vocal) at the same college where she did her masters from. For the past eight years, she has been teaching there.
Talking about COVID, Richa says that the pandemic hit the whole fraternity of musicians adversely. She says many artistes had to struggle to get work as all the live shows were canceled. However, she started teaching music online and thus could survive the pandemic. Besides, leveraging her free time, she also enrolled in a Ph.D. in Music and has been pursuing the same ever since.
When asked about her role models and inspirations, Richa says that she has always considered late Lata Mangeshkar as her biggest role model and inspiration. Besides, she also considers Shreya Ghoshal as her inspiration.
Richa acknowledges the fact that her parents always supported her in her musical journey. She says that her father has always been her biggest support system.
Richa thinks that both education and experience are important in life. She says that a trained singer will always perform better than an amateur singer.
Talking about leadership, Richa says that owing to her singing abilities, she was often asked to lead activities at school. According to her, leadership is about working in harmony with everyone in the team.
To the youth, her message is that despite challenges, never stop working hard as those who keep working hard surely get success. Besides, she advises them to use social media to showcase their talents and promote themselves.
