A Bharatanatyam exponent, Remya has been practicing the dance form for several years now and believes that if we are pursuing something, we need to do it with passion and punctuality in order to achieve our desired goals.

Remya Krishna is a Bharatanatyam artist and teacher.

Remya was born and brought up in Bhopal and is currently living in Bengaluru.

Describing her dance journey, Remya says that her mother introduced her to Bharatanatyam when she was six years old and made her join Kalapadma Bharatanatyam Nritya Academy in Bhopal, where she learned under the tutelage of her guru Shankar Gugal. She learned the basics and did her diploma and post-graduation under the guidance of her guru. She is currently residing in Bengaluru and teaches dance to her students.

Talking about her challenges, Remya says that pursuing her academic studies along with learning dance was a bit challenging for her. She believes that after her marriage, she became involved in her family and took maternity breaks. So, coming back to the dance routine was difficult, as Bharatanatyam requires immense stamina and one should be physically fit in order to do so. Nonetheless, she believes that if we have the passion and willpower, we can overcome anything.

Sharing about her mistakes, Remya says she feels that as a human being, we are bound to make mistakes in life, but one can always try not to repeat those same mistakes. She says that she has not committed any major mistakes in her life and is satisfied with her present stage of life.

When asked about her role models, Remya says that she looks up to Rama Vaidyanathan as a role model, and in her personal life, she feels inspired by her mother and says that her mother is a lady of strong character.

In her spare time, Remya enjoys listening to music. She is also fond of traveling and meeting new people.

When asked how she maintains mental peace, Remya says that rehearsing and teaching her students to dance makes her stress go away.

Remya’s manta is to live life as it comes without planning for the long term. She likes to go with the flow, as increased expectation will always turn into disappointment.

To all the budding artists who are aspiring to learn Bharatanatyam, Remya advises them to invest a significant amount of time in their learning because it is like a penance and takes years of practice to learn this dance form. She advises them to practice a lot in their initial days to get used to the techniques and style of the dance form.

To the youngsters, Remya advises them to pursue their interests, whether it is dance or music or any other thing that they like to do, as it is going to be their biggest stress buster.
