Rekha Mangal is an Indore-Based Makeup Artist who marked her footprints in the industry as early as 1997. She has witnessed a transformation and boom in her business with the advent of social media.

Rekha Mangal was born in Indore and completed her education in the city. She started her career in the beauty industry in 1997 when females took salon treatments rather casually. However, with the industrial advancements and influence of metropolitan culture in Indore, she started getting various types of beauty and hair treatment demands.

Thus, in 2002, Rekha did a Hair Styling Course at Javed Habib Studio in New Delhi. Returning to her city, she started suggesting to clients different hair cuts and beauty treatments. Later, she went on to do various other courses from various cities to update and acquire relevant skills and knowledge about her field.

In 2019, Rekha received Indore’s Best Makeup Artist Award at an event in Mumbai from the well-known Bollywood Actress, Madhuri Dixit. She counts it as the Golden Moment of her life.

Since childhood, Rekha had an interest in beautifying other people. She used to make hairstyles for other females and draw designs on the faces of models on magazine covers. Therefore, she says that her family was sure of her success in the beauty industry.

Initially, Rekha survived in her business with mouth publicity as she did not know how to run a business, marketing, growth strategies, advertising, etc. Moreover, convincing clients of the quality of work was also hard. But, with the advent of social media, smartphones with cameras, and the counselling of business coaches, Rekha succeeded in gaining the trust and interest of the clients.

During Covid, Rekha’s business suffered like many others of the same nature. However, she received client trust because she had a twenty-five-year-old mark in the industry. Clients trusted her and she was able to survive in the toughest of times. Rekha spent that time on social media and tried to keep her clients and followers informed and entertained.

Rekha’s Role Models are a Delhi-based Makeup Artist, Parul Garg, and the well-known Hair Stylist & Beauty Educator, Javed Habib. She admires Parul Garg for her fan-following, hard work, and intricate bridal makeup work. Moreover, the consistency, ambition, and jolly nature of Javed Habib make her admire him.

If Rekha gets a Time Machine, she would like to go back to her college days and choose to study Business Management. She says it would’ve helped her understand business dealings, gain a business mindset, and create a successful business in less time.

When free, Rekha likes to spend time on social media to grow her business, or practice singing, dancing, cooking, doing yoga, etc.

Rekha advises aspiring makeup artists to practice regularly, keep patience, be humble, honest, and punctual, and understand the needs of their clients.
