Dr. Reema Ranka is a Women’s Health Physiotherapist and a Childbirth Educator. She is also the owner of ‘Reborn Pregnancy and Physiotherapy.’ in addition, she is associated with all the maternity hospitals in Thane, Maharashtra and deals with all the antenatal and postnatal patients. She also looks after the cases of menopause, PCOD, urinary incontinence and other female diseases.
Reema says that on clearing her CET exam, she was easily getting an MBBS seat, but she voluntarily chose to make her career in physiotherapy and secured a government seat for herself. She graduated from MGM College of Physiotherapy in Mumbai. She developed her interest in women’s health during her training in the gynecology department.
Recalling her childhood, Reema says she was a studious kid and always kept herself around books, which caused her Trapezitis, at the age of seven. When treating the disease she found that instead of medicines, physiotherapy was more effective for it. And that’s when, giving up her dream of becoming a doctor, she made up her mind to become a physiotherapist.
Describing her struggles, Reema says that she belonged to a typical Marwari joint family, which was very conservative and orthodox. Even after marriage, she was not allowed to work, so she remained entangled in household chores. But after a struggle of one year, she eventually convinced her in-laws to let her work.
Regarding her achievements, Reema says she is a District Sub Coordinator of Indian Association of Physiotherapists’ Women Cell. She is also the head of several other communities for women’s health.
Talking about her COVID experience, Reema says she thought of making women aware of the benefits of physiotherapy in women’s health. For that, she created her Facebook and Instagram accounts and posted reels and videos on several subjects touching male and female health concerns. Lot of appreciation for her posts came in and her followers kept on increasing. And today her lectures are scheduled not only in India but all over the world.
