Ravi Jain is an Udaipurite. He is carrying forward the legacy of his father. He is the only distributor of leading English newspapers in Udaipur and around.

Ravi Jain was born in a village named Kurabad in the Udaipur district of Rajasthan. After his birth his father moved to Udaipur city and started living here. Ravi completed his schooling from St. Paul’s School, Udaipur.

Ravi says that it was his father who started this business of distributing leading English newspapers in Udaipur and surrounding areas in 1972. Ravi started assisting his father in this business at an early age whilst he was still in school. It’s been 38 years since Ravi has been in this business.

Talking about setbacks in his life Ravi says that digitization impacted his business severely. After digitization for the first time there was a decline in demand of newspapers. The COVID-19 pandemic also impacted his business as people started unsubscribing to newspapers fearing that newspapers might be carriers of the Coronavirus. He says that before the pandemic there was a demand for 10,000 copies of English newspapers everyday. But in the pandemic period, at times the demand fell to as low as 25 copies per day.

Ravi considers his father his role model. Whatever he is today, he owes it to his father. He says that his father taught him how to be dedicated toward one’s work. His father was so dedicated and hard-working toward his work that even the TOI Group’s owners knew him personally.

Ravi is of the opinion that everyone should cultivate the habit of reading newspapers daily. He also tries to inculcate it in his kids. He says that in today’s times kids are so hooked to digital devices that they neglect the print media.

To anyone who wants to come into this business, Ravi advises that one should be extremely hard-working and punctual. Dedication and passion toward work is very important to succeed in this business.

Talking about sacrifices he has made in his life, Ravi says that owing to his work he has sacrificed a lot on family-time. His kids always complain that he doesn’t spend time with them. But Ravi says that sacrifices are worth it and are inevitable in any business.

Reflecting on his childhood Ravi says that he did not have much time to do fun activities as he started helping his father at an early age. But, whenever he got time he enjoyed it to its fullest. He says that he likes driving and as a kid would often bribe his driver to let him drive. He shares an incident when he once participated in a scooter rally organized by Rotaract Club, Udaipur. He participated in it without his parents’ notice. During the rally he met with an accident and fell unconscious. But as soon as he regained consciousness he stood up again and finished the rally. After the rally he even participated in other activities that followed and got the first prize. He was also praised for his junoon by the then president of the Rotaract Club, Udaipur.

If he could go back in time and undo something Ravi would want to study further as he couldn’t complete his post graduation.

Though owing to his work Ravi barely has any free time. But whenever he is free he spends quality time with his kids and family.
