Dedication and patience are the keys to surviving and succeeding in the field of law.
Ratan Singh has twice been President of the Bar Association of Udaipur, Ex-Vice-Chairman of the Bar Council of Rajasthan, and currently is its Co-Chairman.
Ratan belongs to a small village in Nathdwara and has been practicing law since 1976. He has almost a hundred to twenty colleagues working under him whom he regards as friends and not as juniors. Two of his children are also advocates. Ratan’s friend motivated and guided him to pursue law in Udaipur.
Ratan studied law at the Government Law College in Udaipur. He practiced labor law for a year only to realize his disinterest in the field, and he switched over to civil and criminal law. In 1992, Ratan Singh joined the court. He says it was a tough and challenging experience with immense sacrifices for a fresher lawyer. However, with his efforts and commitment, he was able to survive.
To all the aspiring advocates, Ratan advises being consistently present in court, dressed in proper uniform, having a quick learning attitude, and being updated and aware of the new laws. He advises them to learn and study daily.
Ratan has seen tremendous growth in the law field, i.e., from three hundred to three thousand five-hundred practicing advocates in Udaipur’s law court. He believes that the law is a crucial subject. He thinks everyone should know the basic laws and legalities to be safe and aware in this fast-growing world.
During COVID, Ratan was also infected but recovered in a week. He believes that the poor were in a much more miserable state during the Corona pandemic. No amount of help could aid their endless problems. Only government measures and efforts can help them in the long run. He states that yoga is very effective in these testing times.
Ratan's father is his role model, as he struggled in life without any support and created a good life for his family. Secondly, Ratan’s guru, Advocate Amar Singh Solanki, has been a motivation in his professional journey. Thirdly, Lord Shiva is his motivator and guide.
Ratan believes in changing with time. He says that crimes have also evolved with time. Cybercrime has given new scope and access to criminal minds and multiple opportunities to lawmakers and the judiciary.
