Ranjeet Pathak is a santoor player and a singer who runs his own music academy under the name of Dhanni Music Academy. Ranjeet comes from Patna, Bihar, and his academy is based in Mumbai. Through his institute, he aims to encourage people who wish to learn music and make their name in the field.
Recalling his childhood, Ranjeet says he studied at St. Paul's School, and followed it up by doing graduation in English from Patna University. He belongs to a family of musicians, which propelled him to pursue a career in the same field. Ranjeet started his musical journey by learning tabla from his father. Thereafter, he tried his hands on other instruments like the harmonium, the guitar, and the santoor.
In order to gain expertise and specialization in playing santoor, Ranjeet moved to Kolkata and took training under Pandit Tarun Bhattacharaya. Pursuing his curiosity and passion, he learnt the instrument under Pandit ji’s supervision for seven years. To make his journey easier, he started teaching music to children as a means of survival and to pay for his training sessions.
Talking about his achievements, Ranjeet says he has showcased his musical talent not just in India but in Europe as well. He has won several awards for his performance. Ranjeet could come this far only after his practice sessions, which he used to perform for 10–12 hours on a daily basis.
Sharing his pandemic experience, Ranjeet shares that it was a difficult phase for him as a musician, at a time when there were no concerts running. However, he didn’t lose heart and fulfilled all his financial obligations by conducting online music classes and, at the same time, keeping the rhythm of music alive in himself and others.
When asked about his role models, Ranjeet says, besides his music guru, he draws inspiration from his father, who motivated him to create his own identity.
