Ramesh Chandra Khandelwal has been running his family business under the name ‘Daddy Ji Ki Dukan- Bikaner Mishthan Bhandar’ since 2006. His shop is one of the oldest and very popular for its sweets and namkeens.
Ramesh belongs to Chanderiya village in Udaipur. He studied till 10th grade from the government school in his village. After that he worked as a confectioner for a long time and later he also opened a STD PCO booth. In 2002, ran a snacks shop and since 2006, he has been running Bikaner Mishthan Bhandar and continues to grow it.
Talking about his childhood, Ramesh says that from the age of twelve, he used to work at his father’s shop. He says that along with studies, he had a lot of fun in his childhood. He used to play several outdoor games like i spy, marbles and gilli-danda, and also used to enjoy flying kites.
When asked about his role models, Ramesh says that he considers his parents and teachers as his role models.
Regarding his COVID experience, Ramesh says that due to the imposition of the lockdown, all the sweets in his shop got spoiled because of the short shelf-life of sweets and namkeens. He suffered a huge loss during the pandemic. As the lockdown eased, he had to start his shop afresh by arranging money again, which was quite a struggle for him.
Ramesh is very disappointed with the smart city project going in the city. He says due to the digging of roads everywhere, his business has been badly affected.
