Ramapriya Jayaraman is a housewife turned paper-quilling artist.

Ramapriya says after her kids grew up, she got interested in paper-quilling. She watched a few videos and learned the art of paper-quilling by herself. She started with small things like earrings, greeting cards, fridge-magnets, home-decorative items, candle holders, etc. She gifted the items to people and eventually started getting suggestions to take it a step ahead and start selling the articles she created as they were really artistic. She started an online shop. Her online shop is with the name www.priyacrafts.com .

Ramapriya felt that she wanted to do something more than this. So, she started her YouTube channel. She also teaches Yoga. She has been continuously learning and doing yoga for more than 12 years. She started spreading her learning by teaching it.

Ramapriya is also doing other things like introducing new talents irrespective of their age and skill-set. She broadcasts it on her YouTube Channel and encourages them. She is proud of herself for doing these things.

Ramapriya says her childhood was really amazing. Her father used to work for BHEL, and they lived in Trichy(Tamilnadu). So, she is basically a South Indian. She grew up in a beautiful locality, and she misses that a lot now. She studied at RSK Higher Secondary School till her 12th grade. She had the most amazing friends in her life, and she is still in touch with all of them.

Talking about her challenges, Ramapriya says that she hasn’t faced too many challenges in her life, but yes, everybody has a few challenges for sure. Life isn’t always easy.

As a child, she was an introvert. She had a close-set of friends, and she was very comfortable with that. When she entered a girls college, it was more comfortable for her to be surrounded by girls. The teachers were friendly enough, and it helped her to become a little extrovert. After she got married and moved to Singapore, she got the opportunity to be a parent volunteer in her daughter’s school. She became the President of the Parents Committee. Due to that, she got the full opportunity to be an extrovert. She had to mingle with parents of different nationalities like Chinese, Malaysians, and so on. She had to manage so many activities being the chairman/president/member of the committee.

As she is usually busy making her YouTube videos, content for videos, editing, etc., she is usually occupied. She is even studying Sanskrit. She is managing all these things while taking care of household chores.

However, whenever she gets time, the fun-stuff that she does outside work is something related to art of any form like drawing, Mandala, or 3D paper-quilled dolls.

Sharing her experience of COVID, Ramapriya says the pandemic has affected the whole world, especially the ones who earn daily wages. But personally, she is an optimistic person. She didn’t feel herself affected much by it. As so many online activities started during Covid, she took advantage of that and learned the Korean language. She even learned various Indian art forms like Kalamkari, Madhubani, Vaali art through online workshops.

When asked about her role models, Ramapriya says whoever excels or does something creative, new, or interesting that sparks her interest is her role model. Even if she can learn a little bit from someone, she tries to grasp that from that person.

Her favourite quote is: Smile is a curve that sets everything right. She believes that and keeps on smiling always.
