Ram Soni is an Artist. He is associated with Sanjhi Art, which is an art that many generations of his family have been associated with.
Ram says that it is a delicate paper-cutting art. He learned it from his father and grandfather. It has been thirty years that Ram has been in this field.
Ram says that he won the National Award in 2002 and the UNESCO Award in 2012.
Talking more about the art, Ram says that it was initially associated with Vallabh Sect Temples, dedicated to Lord Krishna. They used to make Sanjhi Art for temples which were then used in different festivals related to Lord Krishna.
Ram says that not everyone buys things related to gods and to increase the diversity of their business they are also creating nature-related designs. Ram shares that his family is also in jewelry making. They are getting into wall paintings and fabric painting as well.
Ram says that his inspiration is his father. His father motivated him to look at other options in the field of this art and also to expand the business. His father always tells Ram to focus on details and not to miss even the minute ones.
Ram says that any design is first thought of mentally and then drawn on paper. He says that sometimes it is very difficult to think of a new design. Then comes the paper cutting work, which has to be done with extra care as a single wrong cut can destroy the complete specimen.
