Ram Dayal Sharma is a Jaipur-based Tarkashi Artist. He has been working on Indian Rosewood since 1975. He learnt this art from his elder brother and has won many awards in this art form. Ram Dayal also teaches Tarkashi to students of famous design colleges like NIFT and others.
Ram Dayal was born in a small village in Jaipur. He did his schooling till 7th in Jaipur itself. He started working as a Tarkashi Artist to fulfill the basic requirements of his family.
Talking about his challenges, Ram Dayal says that it takes at least three years to learn to work on Indian Rosewood. However, in his three years of learning period, he started to work on even those materials that they used to get done by outside workers. He says that he is proud of doing all the work on his own.
When asked about his mistakes, Ram Dayal says that he used to work with his elder brother. He left the store due to some misunderstanding between him and his elder brother which was a mistake made by him, he says.
Talking about his achievements, Ram Dayal says that he has won many state and national level awards in Tarkashi art. He has been honored by the people and the government for his talent.
To the youth entering into this field, Rama Dayal advises them to stay patient and keep working on their skills. He says that continuous efforts and learning will definitely take you far in this field.
To the new generation, Ram Dayal urges them to keep the art alive. He says that even though there are machines to do the work, you should work using your hands to be in practice.
