Rajneesh Kumar Gupta is the HOD in the Music Department at Delhi Public School, New Delhi.
Recalling his childhood memories, Rajneesh says that he belongs to Himachal Pradesh and spent his childhood with his grandparents due to the transferable job of his father. He completed his education at a government school. He graduated from Shimla College and then went to Delhi to complete his MA, MPhil, and PhD at Delhi University. His family always supported and encouraged him.
Talking about his journey, Rajneesh says that initially he was interested in painting. When he was in ninth grade, he made big paintings on canvas and also did it professionally. Afterwards, he realised that there was limited scope in painting, so he decided to change his profession and started learning music. He was also a sports player.
His teacher, Dr. Sunita Chandel, gave him a chance to perform at the state level in the field of music. Gradually, his interest developed in the field of music. After completing his master's, he started teaching music and then joined DPS in 1994.
Rajneesh’s role models are Dr. Sunita Chandel and his parents, who supported him a lot. He also admires his music teachers like Padma Vibhushan Pt. Debu Chaudhary and Pt. Vinay Kumar Agarwal, as he learned a lot from them in the field of music. After joining the school, his students are his role models, as they are helpful in spreading and promoting music.
Rajneesh’s success mantra is to stick to what he thinks and decides.
Advising aspirants to his field, Rajneesh says that it is important to have basic knowledge and education about music to make a career in this field. Music is a very vast field, and one should decide their field according to their interests. It is also essential to follow the process of learning Ragas in a disciplined manner. There are various career options in the field of music, like social media platforms, recordings, events, teaching, and many more.
