Rajesh Kasera is a Senior Journalist at Rajasthan Patrika in Udaipur.
Rajesh feels really proud that he has been a part of such an esteemed group for such a long time. He has worked in Kolkata, Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh, and has been part of many expansions of the group’s editions. He was involved in the development of the group’s digital newspaper and is now contributing to Patrika TV too. He has had multiple opportunities with the newspaper group.
Rajesh was born and brought up in Kota. He completed his MA in English Literature from there only. Though he didn’t get much guidance and everyone around him was diverting towards the Engineering or Medical fields, due to his supreme desire to do something new and innovative, he joined Journalism. He says that whenever your hobby or passion gets converted into your job, it will create wonders for you, and the same happened with him. Today, he is a successful journalist and has built up really good contacts.
Rajesh shares that there are many myths or misconceptions regarding the media, and people often question the publications and blame them. To clear all these up, he says that journalism is all about reporting the facts. He laments that sometimes people try to manipulate them, bribe them, or threaten them. But he says that if you are telling the truth, no one could cause any harm to you.
Talking about his challenges, Rajesh says that there are a number of challenges each day in the life of a journalist, but their main focus is to present reality to the public. He believes that if you are dedicated to your work and have the passion to present reality in an accurate form to the public, then only you can justify the profession of a journalist.
Rajesh’s role model is his father, who is a self-made man and was very passionate and dedicated to his work. He always taught his children to work with dedication and honesty. He also takes a lot of inspiration from the story of Mahatma Gandhi, who stood for his nation till his last breath and left all his achievements and accomplishments behind in order to serve his nation.
Rajesh’s success mantra is, ‘One should work with heart by keeping mind a bit aside and should work with the team to achieve great success in life.’
For all aspiring journalists and media persons, Rajesh advises that in this field, with glamour come challenges and a huge responsibility, as whatever a journalist delivers will reach lakhs of people out there, so they have to make sure what they are delivering is true. The person should be dedicated enough to work tirelessly for the public and not for glamour or money. The three most important factors for being successful in this field are ‘discipline’,’ honesty’, and ‘exploring new things to do’. One should be passionate enough to work for the public.
Sharing his COVID experiences, Rajesh says that COVID time was challenging for everyone, but all the people associated with journalism and media were very active during this period. They were the ones who were responsible for delivering the correct news to the public. The public was entirely dependent on them for all the latest updates regarding the pandemic. Many journalists got affected by this virus while working in the field, but their spirits didn’t go down. The COVID lockdown was the period when Rajesh got to spend sufficient time with his family. He used this lockdown period judiciously by working from home and spending time with family.
If given a time machine and given a chance to relive a moment of his life, he would definitely be in his childhood. He would love to experience that carefree life once again, which was full of fun and enjoyment. It was also full of learning and experience. He especially cherishes the memories of his school life.
Talking about leadership, Rajesh says he has had ample opportunities to lead his team. From his experience, he can tell that a leader should be team-oriented rather than a dictator. You should be capable enough to provide the right opportunities to your subordinates, as at some point in time you were also at the same stage. You should work with the team and grow with them. He is really grateful to his team for inspiring him to reach where he is today.
In his free time, Rajesh likes listening to retro songs, reading books and articles, and exploring new things. He keeps himself updated with the latest technological advancements, as according to him, one should keep updating himself with the times.
