An architect, Rajesh urges people to always endeavor to promote their culture and values irrespective of what they do and where they work.

Rajesh Gill is an architect based in Chandigarh.

Talking about his childhood, Rajesh says that he was born in a family of farmers in a small village in Haryana. Growing up, he would see his father and grandfather work very hard and from there he learned to work hard. He studied till eighth grade in his village itself. And then he completed the remainder of his schooling in a city near his hometown.

Rajesh shares that after completing his schooling, he was expected to get a government job. He applied for one and got selected for that. However, he wanted to do something in the private sector. That’s when he got to know about courses on architecture. He passed NATA, the entrance test for admission in architecture, and subsequently took admission to an architecture college.

Rajesh shares that his grandfather always inspired him to do something to create his own name. In 2014, along with his studies, he thought of founding his own venture. He named it dark.com.

Sharing his struggles in life, Rajesh says that struggles in his life began when he started his own architecture firm. He would work at an architecture studio during day time and at night at his own studio. However, he says that working hard gave him a solid footing in the field of architecture.

Later, Rajesh started off on his own full-time from Chandigarh. Beating all his struggles, today, he is doing really well with his architecture firm, he says.

Talking about his failures, Rajesh says that in 2016, he took up a project to design a herbal concept park. He worked on that for about six months and eventually he failed, as he didn’t have much knowledge about that. However, his experience from his failure later helped him execute a similar project successfully.

To aspiring architects, Rajesh advises them to be creative and give their one hundred percent to it. Besides, he advises them that apart from having a working knowledge of software and other relevant tools, they should also have an understanding of doing a business in this line of work to establish themselves.

Rajesh thinks that in the field of architecture, both education and experience are important but a balance between the two is more important.

When asked about his role models, Rajesh says that his role models have changed with time. He has considered his father and grandfather as his role models at some point in time. Besides, his teachers from whom he learned architecture, and Dharmveer Sir from whom he learned the practical knowledge of architecture have also been his role models.

In his spare time, Rajesh likes to enjoy his solitude and be in nature. He also likes to explore hilly and plain areas in his free time. Furthermore, he also likes to go on long drives.

If he could go back in time via a Time Machine, Rajesh would want to change the education system in the country in such a way that it promotes Indian culture and values more.

Talking about his leadership qualities, Rajesh says that he realized his leadership potential during his college days when he got to organize an event. Besides, being the eldest son in his family, he was always entrusted with family responsibilities which also made him a leader.
