Rajan Choudhary is from Hanumanpura village of Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. He was born in 1964 and did his schooling till eighth standard in his village itself. He is a Post Graduate and works in the fields of Journalism and Social Service.
He has experience of 30 years in Journalism. He has worked in Dailies like ‘Rashtradoot’. He is also working with ‘Rajasthan Update’ for its YouTube channel and App.
In 1988, Ranjan came into the field of Social Service. He is the founding member of Sikhsit Rojgar Kendra Prabhandak Samiti (SRKPS), Jhunjhunu. They initially started with providing employment news to youth in villages with no accessibility to such news. For about two years, they sent such information to students and aspirants with the help of postcards.
Subsequently, they started creating ‘Navyuvak Mandals’ organizing youth into functional groups. They focused on cleanliness and sports activities.
Rajan says that the 2001 Population Census projected Jhunjhunu in a bad light in terms of the Sex Ratio. He says that they decided to work in this direction and to improve the condition of their district. They had meetings with the District Administration and conducted awareness camps. They coordinated with the Police and other responsible administration people to enforce the PCPNDT Act (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994) and punish the guilty. It also resulted in the arrest of some doctors responsible for sex determination activities. Rajan says that they worked in the establishment of PCPNDT Cells and Coordinators to increase the outreach of the act.
Rajan shares that they are also working in the field of Tobacco Control. He says that 50 percent of the total cases of cancer are caused by Tobacco consumption. On 21st May 2012, Jhunjhunu became the first district of Rajasthan and the fourth district in India to be declared as ‘Dhumrapan Mukta District’ (Smoking free).
Rajan says that the next field they are working in is Child Rights protection. They are providing education to orphan kids, especially girls. They are helping rape victims to recover from their trauma and lead a happy life and providing them with education is the only way to do so. They are also running a Child Helpline, 1098, in their district.
Rajan further shares that SRKPS is also working in helping HIV patients to deal with their disease. They are working in association with the Rajasthan Aids Control Society. They help female sex workers in uplifting their conditions and provide their children better education so that they do not end up in this field.
Rajan says that he himself had decided to have only one child as population is a very crucial issue in our nation. Initially, he had to face friction from his wife and family but he didn’t give up on his decision. Today, many people compliment him on his decision and are also adopting the same.
Rajan says that Education is more important than Experience because without proper education one cannot get better opportunities and hence will not get a better experience. Education provides an enhanced vision and it, in turn, helps in creating a good career.
Rajan feels that leadership qualities are by birth and are polished through our experiences. He says that his rural life has helped him a lot in gaining confidence in his life.
Rajan says that his life motto is to help everyone in need without any prejudice. He says that we all should follow this and also inculcate the same feeling in our generations to come.
