Raghuveer Meena is an ex-MP from Udaipur and a member of the Congress Working Committee-Congress’s highest decision making body. He is also an ex-minister of Rajasthan and a former President of the Pradesh Youth Congress. He is currently a Vice-President in the Pradesh Congress Committee.
Born in Khadbad, a small village near Udaipur, Raghuveer had his primary schooling from his village itself. He had middle school education from a village called Parsad and did higher secondary from Udaipur. Then he did Law from the Rajasthan University, Jaipur.
Right from his student life, Raghuveer was interested in social service and politics. He joined the Youth Congress in 1985 and became the Sarpanch of his village in 1988. From 1993 onwards he was MLA four times from Sarada and won the Lok Sabha election in 2008 from the Udaipur constituency. However, he lost the 2014 elections and the Rajasthan Assembly elections in 2018. Raghuveer comes from a political family. His father was also a four-times MLA. Raghuveer feels pride in the fact that in the long legacy of his family in politics never ever has any member of his family, including himself, come under the slightest suspicion of any sort of corruption.
Raghuveer reminisces about his childhood when he helped his mother and father in taking out their cattle for grazing, bringing fodder for the cattle, milking the cows and the buffalos, and helping his mother in making rotis. He even used to work on the traditional corn grinder. He says he always enjoyed work and was never lethargic.
Raghuveer is grateful to his parents who taught him all types of work and made him a hard working person. His role model in politics is Ashok Gehlot, the Rajasthan Chief Minister, who has always supported and guided him in his journey from a Village Sarpanch to MP and to a CWC member. He thinks the respect which he receives from Gehlot is the biggest certificate for him.
Raghuveer thinks that the society needs good and clean politics. Politicians should be clean, hardworking and they shall always keep in mind the needs of the people, especially of the downtrodden. The young in his opinion lack patience. He advises them to be polite and patient. He feels politicians should be true to their words and they should be honest.
Talking about Corona, he says the lockdown time was very frightening for the world as everything was closed and under curfew. As a social servant he tried his best to help the people by distributing masks, sanitizers and food and also facilitating the migrant labourers to return to their homes.
His life mantra is that there shall never be any blame or corruption charge against him and people should always consider him an honest and clean politician.
Raghuveer says he had leadership traits from the beginning. In his school he used to lead his fellow students, helped his hostel warden and always participated in sports activities.
Raghuveer says he has never considered a position as big and he always respects the grassroot workers.
