Don't just work hard; work smart. Develop a grounded and humble attitude.
Raghu Raj Singh Rathore is a professional photographer based in Udaipur.
Raghu Raj was born and brought up in Udaipur itself. He completed his high schooling from Alok School, Udaipur and further schooling from DPS, Udaipur. After completing a photography course in Jaipur, he relocated to Ahmedabad to further his studies in the field. Eventually, he made a trip to Goa to obtain advanced photography certificates.
Raghu Raj tells us about his deep affinity for the arts and creativity when thinking back to his early years. He took part in two school plays and received recognition for both. Receiving recognition at such a young age filled him with immense satisfaction.
He chose to focus on wedding photography for a year after beginning his professional photography career. Soon he realized that he was not much interested in that field, and after much research, he concluded that Architectural Photography was more to his liking. After spending two years in Goa working for a renowned architectural photographer, he returned to Udaipur to launch his own business.
Raghu Raj has spent the last seven years learning and working in this field. He says that education, particularly in theory, is crucial for young people who want to work in this profession.
In response to a question regarding inspiring figures in his life, Raghu Raj states that his father has been by his side the entire time. In addition, he received a prize in just three to four months after starting photography classes in Jaipur, which boosted his desire to work as a professional photographer.
Talking about the challenges that he faced, Raghu Raj explains that it was difficult for him to persuade his loved ones and friends that learning photography is a lengthy process and that it will take some time before he can genuinely make money out of it. The one thing that enabled him to overcome these obstacles was his mental clarity and early self-awareness regarding his career aspiration.
In contrast to others, Raghu Raj views COVID-19 as a blessing in disguise because it allowed him to dedicate time to improving his abilities and taking stock of his career. He was able to set aside time for skill improvement and make a plan for his future. However, he did see two close friends and family members pass away during the second Covid wave. All in all, Raghu Raj used this opportunity to reflect and spend time with his people.
Even during the second wave of COVID-19, Raghu Raj was successful in closing transactions with clients. He emphasizes that without investing in marketing, his company has been able to work with numerous large clients, such as the Ramee Royal, Sanchi Group, Miraj Group, and others. Raghu Raj has acquired his clientele through word-of-mouth marketing. He has collaborated on architectural photography projects with many well-known people, including Mr. Venugopal, Ms. Priyanka Arjun and others.
Raghu Raj thinks that realizing your goal as an entrepreneur requires a group of bright and committed individuals in your team. At the moment, Raghu Raj views all eight members of his team as equals. He goes on to say that it's critical to concentrate on the expansion of the business, its employees, and ultimately himself. He also feels that he is a natural leader who sets a good example for his team and fosters a nice relationship with them.
He rejuvenates himself by napping, enjoying music, and spending time by himself in quiet locations, which allows him to ponder and introspect.
Raghu Raj further advises young people who want to pursue careers in photography to start reading about the subject to determine what area of photography most interests them. People ought to put in a lot of effort and pursue excellence. Even though you could receive criticism from others occasionally, you should keep working on your project. "Be Humble, Be Simple" is the ultimate lesson.
