Carrying forward the rich legacy of his ancestral artistic skills, Raghav is proud to be the sixth generation member of his family practicing the Thewa art, which is a 250 year old art.

Raghav Raj Soni is a Thewa Kala artist who belongs to the sixth generation of artists in his family, whom he claims are the only ones in this profession. Inspired by his father, who decided to pursue art despite several opportunities that came his way, Raghav followed in his footsteps to become a Thewa Artist.

Raghav describes his ancestor Nathulal Soni as the creator of Thewa art, which dates back to 1761. Adding to it, he says that the art was much liked by the kings and queens during those times. This won them the title "Raj Soni," which was given to his family by the king.

Recalling his early days, Raghav shares that he has been in this profession since 2015, when he was an 18-year-old. He remembers learning the nitty-gritty of art and drawing from his father during his summer holidays. Since then, Raghav has exhibited his art internationally in Portugal and Spain and upgraded his art and designs to offer different varieties to customers.

Raghav excelled in school and even passed his 10th grade with good marks, after which he planned to pursue a career in engineering. However, his father wanted him to take up commerce and carry forward their business of Thewa Art. Raghav is a graduate in commerce and has also done his LLB.

When Raghav’s father got diagnosed with cancer, he made up his mind to stay with his family and not move out for education. He gradually began to present his artwork on online platforms, only to discover that people were drawn to the work, which was not genuine. This episode made his father apply for Thewa GI, which also helped them get better responses for their art.

Raghav advises everyone to stay humble in all situations. His artwork is available on social media platforms under the name "Art of Thewa" by Raghav.
