Rachna Choudhary is an Air Traffic Controller in Mumbai who is also running a successful food blog by the name @cookintower on Instagram.
Rachna is from Bihar. She did her Engineering in Electronics and Communication in 2012. Soon after college, she was placed in TCS and stayed there for around three months. Meanwhile, she gave the examination for ATC and cleared the interview in 2012 and since has been working as an Air Traffic Controller.
As an ATC, her job is to sit in the tower, oversee landing clearance, taxi clearance, pilot communication, and managing the runway. She says that it is a very stressful job because if you make any mistake, then there is no going back. She has to be vigilant and also attend training sessions regularly to get star ratings.
Rachna says that getting appreciated from the Pilots and knowing that the Radio-Telephonic techniques were perfectly handled, is what makes her feel satisfied and proud.
Rachna shares that apart from her job, she is running a Food Blog and never thought that she would ever get into this. She mentions that in her childhood she never stepped in the kitchen and her father always insisted she focus on her studies. Even till marriage, she had not learned cooking and after marriage used to order food every day. It was when they were transferred to Porbandar and could not get the desired food choices, Rachna decided to learn cooking. She started watching YouTube videos and calling her mother for help. Soon, she gained interest in the same.
The Covid pandemic gave her the time needed to start a blog. Initially, she knew nothing about Instagram and how things work in it. She used to get up at five in the morning and learn about it as in the daytime her child used to take all her time.
Rachna says that she was not consistent in the beginning but slowly improved her blog. She remembers that once she published a post on ‘Puran Poli’ and it got featured on the Instagram page of Maharashtra Tourism. After that, many Instagram pages featured her post. It was a happy shock for her.
Talking about the Covid pandemic she says that the only good thing was that she started her blog and got to do something new. She says that the negative aspect was that no one was there to help her with things. She says that it was because of the help of her husband that she managed everything during that time.
Rachna says that her father is her Role Model. He has always inspired her and also wanted her to pursue Civil Services. However, since she got married at the age of 23, she couldn’t go for that. Her father also supported her food blog and used to share it with his friends.
Rachna advises that before starting anything new, one should learn about it a bit and get good knowledge about the process of doing it. She says that diving in the ocean without any knowledge about its depth puts you in a very tough situation. She learned everything after starting her blog which somehow delayed her progress.
If given a Time Machine, Rachna, on a lighter note, says that getting married a few years later would have given her more time to explore her dreams.
