He explains that painting has many different forms and styles. One such form is Portrait Painting, which focuses on capturing the face and expressions of a specific individual. Another important style is Tanjore Painting, where the artwork is first created and then enhanced with traditional Tanjore work using gold foil, especially to highlight ornaments and decorative elements, adding richness and grandeur to the painting.

Artist Dr. Raajan further shares that there are other popular forms as well, including Modern Art, Abstract Painting, Wall Art, and Watercolour Painting, each offering a unique way of artistic expression. Even during his school years, he consistently participated in art competitions and often secured first positions.

He fondly recalls a teacher, Gayatri Ma’am, who recognized his talent early on and always encouraged and selected him for various competitions. When his parents noticed his strong inclination towards the art field, they supported his decision to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rajasthan School of Arts.

Today, he proudly stands at a stage where his paintings are appreciated not only across India but world over. World renowned artist Dr. Raajan Maluuja shares his thoughts on the scope of the art field in today’s era. He explains that in earlier times, opportunities in art were limited because parents primarily emphasized academic studies. However, in the present day, there is tremendous scope for growth in creative fields. According to him, education is important mainly to equip oneself with knowledge and the ability to navigate society, but beyond that, one can pursue a career in any field—be it sports, arts, singing, or dancing—and build a successful and fulfilling professional life.

Reflecting on his early years, Dr. Maluuja shares that he comes from a Punjabi family, with his relatives, including his maternal and paternal grandparents, all residing in Punjab. Although he was born in Delhi, all his siblings were born in Punjab. From a young age, he was determined in his mind that he wanted to build his career in the field of art.

He emphasizes a message for everyone: no matter which field you choose, always carry passion, courage, and perseverance. With sincere effort and dedication, success is bound to follow.

Talking about his role models, Dr. Raajan Maluuja says he considers his drawing teacher, Gayatri Ma’am, as a major source of inspiration. He recalls that she taught with such dedication and had such a positive aura that it felt as if she taught all subjects herself. She constantly motivated him and always selected him for art competitions. Whenever he won medals or certificates, she felt immense joy, proud that she had guided and nurtured a student with true talent, helping him discover and refine his artistic abilities.

He shares that while he is not particularly fond of listening to regular songs, he greatly enjoys bhajans dedicated to Radha-Krishna. In his free time, he also reads the Bhagavad Gita and spends time in meditation, dedicating his focus and devotion to the feet of the Lord.

Dr. Maluuja believes that struggle is a part of everyone’s life, and without facing challenges, true success cannot be achieved. In his initial years, he also faced a lot of criticism, as art was not widely appreciated or understood at that time. However, he says that once you reach a certain level of achievement, the world begins to recognize and admire your efforts. He takes immense pride in having reached this stage on his own, attributing his career to the unwavering blessings and prayers of his mother, which have always guided and supported him.

In terms of achievements, he recalls that at the very beginning of his career, he received a call to create a painting. When he went there, Cricketer Shikhar Dhawan was seated in front of him. Dr. Maluuja guided Dhawan in selecting paintings that would suit his drawing room. Later, Dhawan commissioned him to create a painting of seven running horses as well as a portrait of himself and his wife. When the paintings were completed and delivered, Dhawan was extremely pleased, and the words of appreciation he shared still remain memorable for Dr. Maluuja. He says that this kind of recognition—when one’s hard work is truly glorified—is one of the greatest achievements an artist can experience. Over the years, many celebrities and politicians have also commissioned paintings from him, adding to his rich and diverse portfolio.

He shares a memorable experience from his career when he received a call from America. The daughter-in-law of the then Chief Justice of India requested him to create a painting of her oath ceremony. When he handed over the completed painting, her words of appreciation became one of his most cherished achievements.

Similarly, he received a call from the Vice President of India, who also commissioned a painting and was extremely pleased with the result. Today, his artworks are proudly displayed in the official residences of Chief Ministers across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra, among others. He humbly attributes all this success to the grace of Lord Shree Krishna, acknowledging that his achievements are a result of divine blessings.
