Puspita has been pursuing Odissi since the age of three. She is widely acclaimed as an Odissi dancer both in Odisha and outside.

Puspita Mishra is an Odissi dancer and instructor based in Odisha. She runs an organization to teach students the Odissi dance and also to promote promising artistes.

Puspita hails from Bhubaneshwar in Odisha. She completed her school and college education in Bhubaneshwar itself. She studied at Kendriya Vidyalaya and did her masters from Utkal University.

Recalling her childhood, Puspita says that her entire childhood was spent in Bhubaneshwar. Growing up, her mother wanted her to learn the Odissi dance. She says her siblings also learned the dance but couldn’t continue it further owing to their studies and other reasons. However, she considers herself fortunate that she has been pursuing the Odissi dance for the past forty-eight years. She did her Arangetram at the young age of four in 1975.

Puspita acknowledges that her siblings, her parents, and her in-laws have supported her at all times in her endeavors in life.

Regarding her mistakes, Puspita says that she started teaching after completing her education even though it was not her interest area which was a mistake for her. Besides, she also acted in a couple of Oriya movies which was also a mistake of hers as later she realized that she wasn’t a good actor.

Talking about her achievements, Puspita says that she received a Mahari Award, an award instituted by Guru Pankaj Charan Odissi Research Foundation and given to outstanding Odissi dancers. She says receiving a Mahari Award is considered a big achievement in Odisha.

To aspiring Indian classical dancers, Puspita tells them that dance as a career is really a good option. However, she advises them to make the fundamentals of the classical dance of their choice very strong to pursue it as a sustainable career. Besides, she advises them to watch other artistes perform to add to their learning.

To people, Puspita advises them that instead of peeping into others’ lives they should look within and work on themselves. Besides, she advises them to adhere to the path of righteousness, no matter what.

To the youth, Puspita advises them to always be extremely hard working and always tell the truth to their parents.

In her spare time, Puspita likes to watch dance videos on YouTube to learn different types and styles of dance.
