Yoga must be lived.
Yoga must be lived.
Pushkar Pandey has been an Assistant Professor of Yoga at B.N. College, Udaipur for the last seven years.
Recalling his childhood, Pushkar says that he was born in the Arrah district of Bihar. He did his early schooling in his village and completed his twelfth in Patna. He was not good at studying, so he left his studies and started doing some work. But he was advised to at least complete his graduation. He graduated from IGNOU in Tours and Travels. He was simultaneously doing his marketing job, but his interest shifted towards yoga after doing a yoga course. He came to Udaipur to do an MA in Yoga from Pacific University and is currently continuing his PhD.
Pushkar says that while he was working for a marketing company, he visited Munger for some company work. There he got to know about the residential courses offered by the Bihar Institute of Yoga and found them unique in some way. He applied for its four-month yoga course. When he got selected for that course, he immediately quit his job and joined the course. When he came back home after completing the course, he noticed the difference in his lifestyle. Inspired by that, he again pursued a one-year diploma in yoga from the same institute.
Pushkar explains that yoga is not just doing asanas and meditation; it is all about imbibing it into our lifestyle. He explains that there are five types of yoga: Hatha yoga, Raj yoga, Karma yoga, Bhakti yoga, and Gyan yoga. The inclusion of these five types of yoga in a person's life is necessary, and the courses in their ashram are designed in the same way.
When asked about his role models, Pushkar says that his role model is his yoga guru. He has learned from him that yoga must be lived. The asanas everyone does are just one step towards learning them, and they should inculcate the yogic style of living into their lives.
Comparing education and experience, Pushkar says that for him, practical experience is more important than bookish knowledge.
If given a chance to go back in time in a time machine, Pushkar would like to attend the yoga course again.
Pushkar advises everyone to start practicing yoga for physical and mental peace, and says that it is essential, especially for young kids.
